HS Roundup: Big win for Merrimack lax; Sabers edged at Cooperstown

It may be school vaca week,but Wednesday certainly was not dull when it came to the local high school teams.
First, Souhegan baseball took advantage of the week with a field trip – literally. The Sabers played Concord not in Amherst but at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, N.Y. Yes, a visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Meanwhile, Merrimack lacrosse got its fifth win of the season, and at 5-1 are off to the best start in program history.
Here’s a look at an eventful Wednesday:
BASEBALL
TRINITY 4, MERRIMACK 1
The Tomahawks fell to 1-6 despite having the bases loaded twice and runners on second and third with none out in the first and coming up empty each time.
Eliot Medlock had a double, going 1 for 2 with two walks and scored Merrimack’s only run as the ‘Hawks were held to four hits.
Merrimack is slated to host Nashua North today at 11 a.m., making up Monday’s postponement.
EXETER 13, ALVIRNE 2
The Broncos couldn’t overcome 10 walks allowed and just having two hits, falling to 0-7. Kyle Dufour and Craig Pederson had RBIs, while Pederson and Charlie Crawford had their only hits.
Antonio Vallante battled on the mound, allowing just two hits over 4.1 innings, but had control problems. Exeter took advantage going up 4-0, and after Alvirne closed to 4-2 the Blue Hawks pulled away.
The Broncos host Nashua North on Friday.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 4, SANBORN 1
Charlie Hale, tossing a complete seven inning game, struck out 11 while allowing one run on six hits.
Alex Razzaboni had an RBI hit, and had two hits along with Gavin Knudsen, Dylan Morelli, Zak Lussier and Jack Lager.
Now 6-1, HB is off until it hosts ConVal on Monday.
CONCORD 2, SOUHEGAN 1
The surroundings were fun but the result for the Sabers wasn’t, as Concord’s Matt Drewes scattered seven hits over his seven frames, not allowing any earned runs.
He outdueled Saber Brayden Hickman, who tossed a four-hitter and struck out six over his seven, while also getting a double at the plate.
Nate Wachter had a good game for Concord with a run scored and had an assist at home plate, preventing the Sabers (2-5) from tying the score.
Souhegan hosts Sanborn on Monday.
NEWMARKET 10, WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 0 (Monday)
In a game earlier this week, the error-plagued Warriors fell to 1-7 despite three shoutout innings on the mound from Trevor Sullivan, who fanned four, walking two. J.J. Benson struick out five in two innings.
WLC hosts Sunapee today.
SOFTBALL
MERRIMACK 22, WEST/TRINITY 2
The Tomahawks improved to 4-3 as Marissa Nelson went 5 for 5 with two triples, two doubles and four RBIs.
Other Merrimack standouts included Lily Dionne (2 for 5, two RBIs), Katie Coolidge (double) and Jules Nobrega (triple)
Pitcher Avery Hui allowed two hits and two runs in the first inning and that was it, as she struck out 10 in four innings.
Merrimack hosts Portsmouth on Friday.
EXETER 10, ALVIRNE 2
It was a tough day for the Broncos (3-4), who still got two hits from Jaelyn Green (2 for 3) while Madison Bradish (1 for 3 with an RBI double) and Sky Merrow (1 for 3 with an RBI single) also played well.
Alvirne visits Nashua North on Friday.
SANBORN 1, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0
After a wild affair on Monday, the Cavaliers couldn’t cross home plate yesterday despite Abigail Guay going 3 for 3 with a single, double and triple.
The Cavs (5-2) wasted a great pitching performance by Kailey Disco, who allowed just two hits in six innings, striking out nine.
HB if off until it hosts ConVal on Monday.
BOYS LACROSSE
NASHUA NORTH 9, MANCHESTER 8
The Titans improved to 3-4, edging the Memorial-Central co-op with three goals by Austin Kaminaris and a goal by Brody Sutton. Jack Peters (three assists) and Alec Jenkerson (five ground balls) also played well, as did Jace Colon in goal with 10 saves.
North hosts Bedford on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Stellos Stadium.
WINDHAM 17, NASHUA SOUTH 5
The Panthers’ two-game win streak ended, despite four goals and an assist from Beau Dubois.
Tyler Benzekri had a goal and an assist while Jack Hamblett added an assist.
South (2-6) is at Pinkerton at 11 a.m. Friday.
MERRIMACK 4, ST. THOMAS 3
The Tomahawks, who scored the eventual game-winner with 3:40 left, got two goals from Jackson Forbes, and a goal and assist each from Kyle Dunn and Ryan Rezendes. Max Giles and Beau Lamontagne each had assists.
Reimello Hyde and Beau Lamontagne played well defensively for Merrimack in front of goalie Nolan Anderson.
Merrimack takes its 5-1 record to Dover on Friday.
GIRLS LACROSSE
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 17, LONDONDERRY 7
The Cavaliers (6-2) played up a division with great results — a fourth straight win — , as Sabrine Hill (four goals, assist), Alyssa Hill (three goals, assist), Bella Haytayan (three goals, assist) and Juliette Ogren (three goals) keyed the offense.
Paige Mello added two goals while Caileen Roy and a Samantha Smith each had a goal. Roy also dominated in midfield with six draw controls, while Alyssa Hill and Mello had three each.
Haytayan led with five caused turnovers while Paige Magnuszewski and Daniella Allanach added two CTO’s each. Magnuszewski led with five ground ball pickups and Juliette Ogren added three. Addy Dougherty had four saves in net.
HB’s JVs won 6-3 led by Izabella Martinos’ four goals.
HB visits the John Stark/Hillsboro-Deering co-op on Monday.
PINKERTON 17, SOUHEGAN 10
Emma Kennedy and Lyla Kimball each had three goals but the Sabers still fell to 1-3 on the young season.
Natalie Heimarck added two goals while Abby Giannetti had two goals and two assists. Riley Devine also had two assists for the Sabers, who are at Salem on Friday.
