HS Roundup: Locals shine at North Invitational; BG lax falls

The place to be Saturday was either at Holman Stadium for some fabulous high school baseball, or Nashua High School North for some of the best track and field athletes in the area as well as the state.

There was the quadrupleheader at Holman Stadium featuring all three Nashua teams, or the 17th annual Nashua High School North Invitational.

Also, a tough out of state loss for the BG boys lacrosse team at Providence College.

Here’s how things shook out on a super Saturday:

BOYS & GIRLS TRACK

LOCALS SHINE AT NORTH INVITE

In the boys meet, local winners included Hollis Brookline’s Matt McLaughlin in the 400 (51.17), Nashua South’s Rory Olsen in the 110 hurdles (15.96), Nashua North’s Jack Sullivan in the 300 hurdles (40.59), just ahead of Olsen (42.33), and Sullivan again in the triple jump (41-4), Nashua South’s Antonio Martinez in the shot put (52-1.25), Alvirne Shawn and Boudreau in the discus (125-1)

In the girls meet, Alexis Best of Merrimack captured the 100 (12.51) and fellow Tomahawk Melanie Bedard took the one mile run in 5:39.13. The ‘Hawks Kailey Dillon won the 300 hurdles (46.54) and was second in the 100 hurdles while the ‘Hawks Alexis Best won the triple ump at 37-5.25.

Nashua South’s Soraya Ross was second in both the 100 and 200 and helped the Panthers captured the 4×100 relay along with Mimi Ortiz, Mia Cruz, and Iyana Braswell (48.97). The Panthers edged rival North in the 4×800 (10:35.97-10:46.01).

North’s Mardy Novak won the shot put (35-2.25) ahead of Milford’s Kylie Alen (35-2), took the javelin (110-4) and was second in the discus.

BASEBALL

NASHUA NORTH 3, SALEM 2

In the first game of the day at Holman, Elias Bourque was solid on the mound fo r the Titans, tossing a complete game, allowing no earned runs and five hits, striking out seven.

He also went 2 for 2 at the plate with a run scored and RBI. James Markey went 1 for 3 with an RBI while Toby Brown Jr. scored the go-ahead run, second game in a row he’s scored.

North (4-2) takes on Merrimack, weather permitting, Monday at 11 a.m.at MHS.

DOVER 6, BISHOP GUERTIN 1

The Cardinals suffered their first loss of the season in the final game of the day/night at Holman.

Ryan Haskell had the lone BG RBI while Owen Richmond had two clean innnings in relief.

The 4-1 Cards take on Manchester Central-West on Monday.

BOYS LACROSSE

STAPLES 11, BISHOP GUERTIN 10 (OT)

Staples scored with 2:45 left in sudden death overtime to hand the Cards their first loss of the season.

This one was tough for Guertin, which led 5-0, then10-5 and had a 10-8 lead with five minutes to go only to see Staples tie it with 48 seconds left to send things into OT.

Brady Dumont had four goals for BG, while Jacob Caron had two goals and others scoring were Connor Bouvier, Caleb Yeung, Connor Guibord, and Aidan Laurendeau.

BG is at Bedford on Tuesday.
