HS Roundup: First wins for South, Merrimack teams

Friday was a day of firsts for some local teams, most in a good way.

The Nashua South baseball and lacrosse teams, captured their first wins of the season, as did the Merrimack baseball girls tennis teams. Unfortunately, the South girls lacrosse and Hollis Brookline boys lacrosse teams suffered their first losses.

Here is the rundown on a full Friday:

BASEBALL

NASHUA NORTH 6, TIMBERLANE 5

Jayce Martinez picked up the game winning hit to score Toby Brown. Kenny Reel threw the final five innings for the Titans (3-2) striking out five. Reel, Elias Bourque, Joey Deck and Mario Ramirez all collected hits and RBIs. North hosts Salem on Saturday.

NASHUA SOUTH 11, CONCORD 5

The Panthers (1-3) find their first win as they traveled to Concord. Jake O’Connor pitched four and two-thirds innings giving up one hit, zero runs and struck out one. O’Connor also had two RBIs, three runs and two stolen bases. Nick Shaw (two hits, two RBIs), Isaiah Hedquist (two hits, RBI, two runs) and Caleb Rich (two RBIs, two runs, two stolen bases) contributed to the offense. South hosts Pinkerton on Saturday.

WINNACUNNET 13, ALVIRNE 1

The Broncos sit at 0-6 after their road loss Friday afternoon. Kyle Dufour (run), Alex Blais (RBI) and Logan Casey recorded one hit each. Alvirne hosts Exeter on Wednesday.

CAMPBELL 9, SOMERSWORTH 2

The Cougars (3-1) grab a decisive win against Somersworth on Friday. Drew Avitabile went five innings allowing six hits and two earned runs. Hunter Henderson, Jack Kidwell, Luke Delia and Mike Grace provided the offense with multiple hits apiece. Kidwell tallied four RBIs on a grand slam in the sixth. Campbell also showed off their speed stealing eight bases.

Campbell hosts Hopkinton on Monday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 10, OYSTER RIVER 0

The Cavs (5-0) keep the streak going with a shutout win on the road. Gavin Knudsen, Charlie Hale, Zak Lussier, Alex Razzaboni, Jack Lager and Jonah Winsor all drove in runs in HB’s seven run outburst in the second inning. Lager was credited with the win allowing zero runs on one hit and struck out seven. HB hosts John Stark on Monday.

MERRIMACK 8, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 3

Eliot Medlock struck out 11 in five innings to lead the Tomahawks (1-5) to their first win of the season. Medlock added to the offense with two hits and two runs with Luca Labels tallying a triple. Merrimack host Nashua North on Monday.

SOFTBALL

CONCORD 18, NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Titans (0-3) gave up 12 runs in the second inning and boosts Concord to the win. Jillian Daley took the loss allowing two hits, two runs and striking out one. Elizabeth DeRusha recorded one hit. South visits Pinkerton on Monday.

TIMBERLANE 19, NASHUA NORTH 2

The Titans (0-6) remain winless after they visited the Owls. Hope Blondin struck out three batters in relief. Blondin and Kayla Redman crossed home plate to score North’s only two runs. North surrendered nine walks, hit six batter and made several errors in the loss.

North hosts Merrimack on Monday.

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 33, NUTE 8

The Warriors (3-2) grab another win with their explosive offense. Bri Fish had four hits including a grand slam. Kelsey Crouse recorded three hits and five runs, Ella Morris had four extra base hits and Lexi Bausha ran for an inside the park home runs. WLC hosts Newmarket on Monday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, OYSTER RIVER 1

The Cavs improve to 5-0 after a close win against Oyster River. Austyn Kump pitched seven innings, allowing one hit, one run and struck out eight. Kump added to offense hitting a home run with two RBIs. Emily Tebbetts had a triple and scored a run. Savannah Duquette, Kailey Disco and Ashley Disco all had hits. HB hosts John Stark on Monday.

BOYS LACROSSE

SALEM 10, NASHUA NORTH 7

The Titans fall to 1-4 after Friday’s loss. Jack Peters scored five goals, Brody Sutton had one and Jace Colon made 15 saves. North hosts Keene on Monday.

NASHUA SOUTH 8, DOVER 6

The drought is over for the Panthers, who won their first game of the season (1-6) and first career win for new head coach Will DeLanoy.

Beau Dubois led the way with five goals and two assists, while Broden Landstiener had two goals and Tyler Benzekri had a goal and two assists.

The Panthers host the Manchester Memorial-Central co-op on Monday at Stellos Stadium at 6 p.m.

TIMBERLANE 17, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 8

The Cavs (4-1) suffer their first loss of the season in the claws of the Owls. Ben Dufoe (four goals, two assists), Connor Cook (two goals), Noah Taylor (goal), Tommy Anderson (goal, assist), Andrew Torgersen (two assists), Braden Treacy (three groundballs) and Charlie Dee (13 saves) played well for the locals.

HB visits Alvirne on Tuesday.

OYSTER RIVER 8, ALVIRNE 7

The Broncos (2-3) drop their third straight contest when they visited Oyster River. Jonavan Santana led the offense with four goals. Preston Ball, Cole Bucknam and Joey Ribeck each tallied one. Alvirne hosts Hollis Brookline on Tuesday.

MERRIMACK 13, CONCORD 11

Kyle Dunn (two assists) and Jackson Forbes each found the back of the net four times in the Tomahawks (3-1) win. Ryan Rezendes (two goals, assist), Conor Dunn (goal, assist) and Cayden Dine (goal) added to offense. Nolan Anderson made seven saves in net. Merrimack visits Concord on Tuesday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

SALEM 7, NASHUA NORTH 5

The Titans falter in a tough battle with the Blue Devils. Summer St. Pierre scored four goals and Molly Ducharme added one. Elliott Brown played well in net with 17 saves.

DOVER 13, NASHUA SOUTH 10

The Panthers (4-1) surrender their first loss of the season when they visited Dover. Morgan Udzanovich (four goals), Karina O’Donnell (seven draw controls, two goals, assist), Maren Lowell (two goals), Ella Benzekri (seven draw controls, goal), Maddy Matylewski (goal), Anna Pasquale (assist) and Keira Walsh (four saves) played well in the loss. South hosts Pinkerton on April 28.

KEENE 17, ALVIRNE 2

The Broncos drop to 0-6. Jaliceanna Santiago and Makayla Meehan scored one goal apiece and Alexa Kruger had 16 saves. Alvirne visits Goffstown on May 1.

PORTSMOUTH 21, SOUHEGAN 9

The Sabers (1-2) lose a big one at home to the Clippers. Natalie Heimarck (three goals), Lyla Kimball (two goals), Emma Kennedy (goal, assist), Riley Devine (goal, assist) and Abby Giannetti (two goals) contributed on offense. Souhegan hosts Pinkerton on Wednesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

LONDONDERRY 6, NASHUA SOUTH 3

Londonderry took five of six singles to clinch the match, the only singles win going to Maggie Wagner at No. 1, 8-2.

Wagner also teamed with Samitha Nadella at No.1 doubles for an 8-2 win, and the No. 2 team of Krisha and Krina Dani won 9-7.

Now 1-3, South now is off next week and resumes play vs. Hanover at home on May 1.

ALVIRNE 8, SPAULDING 1

The Broncos improved to 3-2, taking five of six singles and sweeping doubles.

Singles winners included Natalie MacSweeney (8-2), Kenzie Legg (8-2), Avery Baker (8-2), Emma Coppi (8-4) and Marissa Murphy (8-1).

MacSweeney/Baker (8-6), Legg/Coppi (8-6) and Murphy/Liz Rugg (8-4) all won in doubles.

Alvirne, like all other teams is off until it visits Manchester Central on May 1.

BISHOP GUERTIN 9, CONCORD 0

The Cardinals enjoyed their second straight sweep. Singles wins straight down the ladder were by Sophia Sears (8-4), Jasmine Shattuck (8-0), Jaclyn Krisciuras (8-0), Lydia Miller (8-0), Jill Scanlon (8-2) and Aanya Sheddy (8-0).

Sears/Shattuck (9-7), Krisciuras/Miller (8-0) and Scanlon/Sheddy (8-0) completed the sweep in doubles.

Now 3-3, BG is at Manchester Memorial on May 1.

MERRIMACK 7, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 2

The Tomahawks get to go into the break with a great feeling, getting their first win of the season (1-6).

Among the singles winners were Katie Costa (8-0), Emily Winefield (8-3), Jordan Zebuhr (8-0) and Lily Fanchaing (8-6).

Doubles winners were Costa/Jess Harden (8-0), Eldieb/Emily Theriault (8-6) and Zebuhr/Amy Sullivan (8-0).

BOYS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 9, LONODNDERRY 0

The Panthers captured their fourth straight to go into the break at 4-1. Singles winners were Abhinav Avvaru (8-0), Atul Phadke (8-1), Mihir Garmella (9-8, 7-3), Jason Zhu (8-4), Aadi Kulkarni (8-3) and Jerry Primo (8-1).

Completing the sweep in doubles were Avvaru/Phadke (8-1), Kulkarni/Garmella (8-6) and Zhu/Aidan Sullivan (8-6).

South is at Hanover on Monday, May 1.
