HS Roundup: Panthers back on track; BG girls lax wins

They’re back on (their) track.
The Nashua High School South boys and girls track teams were back on the Fran Tate Track for the first time in four years. There was no season in 2020, and the last two years the track was needing repair, and was resurfaced in August. Thus the Panthers were finally able to host a meet, boys and girls both celebrating with wins over Alvirne and Manchester Central.
“The South team was determined not to let the opportunity pass them by,” South boys coach Doug Booth said, “to prove that they will be a force this track season.”
Elsewhere it was also a day for lacrosse, as the Bishop Guertin girls downed Souhegan in the season opener for both. Also, the Milford girls and the Hollis boys enjoyed wins, the Cavs in a big way.
Here’s your Tuesday local rundown:
BOYS TRACK
SOUTH WINS TRI MEET
The Panthers totaled 121.33 points, easily outdistancing Alvirne (41.33) and Manchester Central (1.33).
Rory Olsen won the 110 and 300 hurdles, while Michael Menezes took the 100 and 200 meter dashes, and jumper Sami Witta took the high and long jumps.
Other Panther winners were Keith O’Donnell (400), Kein Nbudasi (javelin), Tony Martinez (shot put), Revin Olesn (pole vault), Connor Theodore (1600) and Clifford Teixeira (800). South also took the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
Nick Marcotte captured the 3200 for Alvirne, while Colin Fay won the triple jump and Shawn Boudreau was tops in the discus.
NORTH BOYS TOP BG, KEENE
The Titans are off to a great start as they totaled 81.5 points, while Guertin edged Keene for second (57.5-56).
Titan winners included Ethan Preston-Teieira in the 110 hurdles, Armani Rogers in the 300 hurdles, Jack Sullivan in the long and triple jumps, Darius Smith in the shot put, and ordy Rose De Los Angeles in the javelin.
BG winners include Matthew Giardina in the 800, and Spencer Matarazzo in the high jump. Also, North took the 4×400 relay while BG won the 4×100.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE SECOND AT KINGSWOOD INVITATIONAL
The Cavaliers (89) finished second in a meet won by Pelham (89), with Plymouth (68), Kingswood (37) and Kennett (19) to follow.
Picking up wins were Henry Bruneau (400 meter dash), Matthew McLaughin (800 meter run), Nate McEvoy (Javelin), and Marcus McCammack (triple jump). The 4×400 meter relay of Marcass McCammack, Jacob Hoesch, Parker Cheyne and Henry Bruneau also grabbed the top spot.
Also performing well with top three finishes for the boys were Samuel Bruneau (100) and Andrew Desmaris (long and high jumps).
GIRLS TRACK
SOUTH TOPS ALVIRNE, CENTRAL
The Panther girls totaled 104 points while Alvirne was second at 38 and Central (27) third.
Soraya Ross won the 100 dash, Rebecca Hiscock won the 3200, and Mimi Ortiz the 100 and 300 meter hurdles.
Other South winners: Mia Cruz captured the high jump, Penelope Rodriguez the pole vault, Iyana Braswell the long jump, Alejandra Chavarin the triple jump,Marissa Abbis the shot put, and Chavarin-Braswell-Cruz-Ross the 4×100 relay.
Bronco winners included Paige Boudreau in the 800, just ahead of teammates Sophia Berube and Jenn Hebert; Brynna Anderson in the 1600, and Petrina Ofori in the 300 hurdles. Ofori, Anderson, Boudreau and Ava Martin teamed up for a win in the 4×400 relay.
NORTH GIRLS TOP KEENE, BG
The Titans totaled 95 points, easily topping Keene (50) and third place Bishop Guertin (34).
Titan winners included Jhanelle Thomas in the 100 and 200, Sonya Witkoskie in the 1600, Isabella Di Vernieri in the 100 hurdles, Christina Juris in the 300 hurdles, Skyler Hewson in the long jump. Mardy Novak was a triple winner with a throw sweep: wins in the shot put, discus and javelin.
North also captured both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays
For Guertin, Audrey Murrin led the way with wins in the high jump and triple jump, Anna Fondakowski was second in the 1600, and Sara Witta in the 300 hurdles.
HOLLIS GIRLS SECOND AT KINGSWOOD
Like the boys, the Cavalier girls (76 points) finished second in the Kingswood Invitationa behind Kennett (80), but edging Pelham (75). Plymouth was fourth (54) and Kingsood fifth (32).
Taking the top spot for the girls team was Genevieve Scales (discus) and the 4×100 meter relay team of Maia Arthur, Grace Down, Lilly Bouchard, and Maryfei Berrigan.
Other strong performers with top three finishes included Ana O’Donnell (400 meter dash), Brooke Bouchard (800 & 1600 meter runs), Claire Ballou (100 Hurdles), Sara Hendrickson (Javelin).

GIRLS LACROSSE
BISHOP GUERTIN 22, SOUHEGAN 11
The Cardinals started the season out on in good fashion, storming out to a 13-6 halftime lead over the host Sabers. Among the scorers were Lauren Redfern, Ariana Kouchalakas and Anna Campel. Maddy Eder-Linell played well in goal.
Emma Kennedy led Souhegan with five goals and two assists, while Lyla Kimball, Natalie Heimarck and Abby Giannetti had two goals apiece. Riley Devine added an assist.
BG hosts Portsmouth on Thursday at Stellos Stadium while Souhegan visits Stellos on Friday to face Nashua North.
MILFORD 11, LACONIA 10
The Spartans hung on in a tight season-opening contest, as Kelci Waters led them with four goals and two assists, one of six Spartans to score.
Nevaeh Fay and Kate Hansen each had two goals while Addy Hopkins and Bailey Johnson added a goal and an assist. Adde Pare also had a goal.
Milford hosts Coe-Brown on Thursday.
BOYS LACROSSE
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 16, HILLSBORO-DEERING 1
The Cavaliers got their season off to a fabulous start as Ben Dufoe had eight goals and an assist.
Other keys: Noah Natalino (two goals, two assists), Connor Cook and Andrew Torgersen (two goals apiece), Mascon Acheson and Noah Taylor (goal apiece), Tommy Anderson and Deegan Herrera (an assist each), Deegan Herrera (nine ground balls), Elliot Troddyn (50 percent on faceoffs) and goalie Charlie Dee (11 saves).
HB hosts Spaulding on Friday.
PELHAM 11, MILFORD 2
Charlie Urda and Ryan Arseneau had the goals for Milford, while Kaleb Francouer had an assists.
Despite the loss James Brew was superb in goal with 16 saves while Justin Desmarais and Dartagnan Boudreau played well defensively.
Milford vists Campbell on Friday at 4:45 p.m.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
SALEM 3, BISHOP GUERTIN 0
The Cards suffered a season opening 25-15, 25-13, 25-14 sweep. They’ll get back at it again today at home vs. Farmington.
