It may have been freezing outside on Friday night, but some high school basketball players were red hot. For example, Alvirne’s Sammy DeWitt continued his scoring touch with 28 points, albeit in a loss to Bishop Guertin in which Luke Anderson also kept up the pace.

Jayden Montgomery had a big night for shorthanded Nashua North, while Kate Canavan helped Souhegan to its third win of the season.

The cold did impact the schedule, however. The Merrimack boys and girls games vs. Manchester Central were moved to Feb. 13, while Hollis Brookline had its boys and girls games with ConVal postponed, but not rescheduled yet. The same with the Souhegan boys, who were spared a long trip up to North Conway in the chill.

But for those who played, here’s a look:

BOYS BASKETBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 84, ALVIRNE 71

The Cardinals (9-3) notch their fourth straight win when they visited the Broncos (4-8). Luke Anderson led BG with 22 points, Javari Ellison recorded 17, Matt Santosuosso had 16 and Tyler Mackey added 11.

Sam DeWitt had the hot hand for Alvirne collecting 28 points, Garrett Hall tallied 18 and Cam Keuger had 13.

BG hosts Manchester Central and Alvirne visits Spaulding on Tuesday.

NASHUA NORTH 76, SALEM 59

The shorthanded Titans stomp down the Blue Devils Friday night to improve their record to 12-1. Jayden Montgomery led the scoring with 17 points, Parth Miglani tallied 15, Jaden Pena had 14 while Jack Peters and Robinson Rodriguez had eight apiece.

North was without starters Trevor Labrecque and Jack Sullivan (injury and illness), but Montgomery steadied the ship.

“Jayden Montgomery was the difference,” North coach Steve Lane said. “Great senior leadership.”

North hosts Manchester Memorial on Tuesday.

LACONIA 83, MILFORD 63

The Spartans fall to Laconia and drops their record to 6-7. Brady Hansen knocked down seven three-pointers to lead Milford with 21 points. Chuck Urda ended the night with 13 points and Will O’Connell had 11. Milford visits Hanover on Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

SOUHEGAN 36, TIMBERLANE 29

Kate Canavan scored 14 points to lead the Sabers (3-9) to a win. Mishak Tower had a career high nine points and Aaleyah Mortimer had five.

Souhegan hosts Hollis Brookline on Tuesday.

SALEM 75, NASHUA NORTH 26

The Titans (0-11) lose decisively on the road to the Blue Devils. Summer St. Pierre had a team high of 10 points and Angie King added six. North visits Manchester Memorial on Tuesday.

BEDFORD 66, NASHUA SOUTH 37

The Panthers (3-9) lose on the road to a stout Bulldog team Friday night. Ella Karavanic scored 15 points and Morgan Gillis added 11. South hosts Dover on Tuesday.

CONANT 50, CAMPBELL 27

The Cougars (5-10) fall to the Orioles in their final home game of the season. Alyvia Ashe and Kristina Castellano led Campbell with six points and four rebounds apiece. Ava Soldner added five points with Amelia Silver and Kate Soule each chipped in with four.

Campbell visits Raymond on Tuesday.
