HS Roundup: BG skaters top Bedford; Milford girls bounce back

It looks like a season of big things for the Bishop Guertin High School boys hockey team, which is now 6-0 after beating Division I nemesis Bedford Wednesday at Skate 3 Arena.

Meanwhile, on the hardwood, the Milford girls recovered nicely from their first loss with a relatively easy win on the road, and Bishop Guertin avenged a loss to Dracut (Mass.) with a resounding win.

In wrestling, dMerrimack got a big dual meet win over local Division II rival Alvirne.

And don’t look now but the Milford boys basketball team is 5-1.

BOYS HOCKEY

BISHOP GUERTIN 4, BEDFORD 2

Tim Kiely snapped a 2-2 tie with a second period goal and Logan Vogel added one in the third as the Cards got a huge win over the Bedford Bulldogs at Skate 3.

The teams traded a pair of goals in the first period with Ryan Kelley and Devin Young scoring for BG, assisted both times by Aidan Kelley. John Mantone had two assists on the night while Kelley and Colin Roark also had single assists.

Brayden King collected 19 saves for BG, now 6-0 and at Concord on Saturday night. Bedford fell to 3-2.

BELMONT-GILFORD 5, HOLLIS BROOKLINE-DERRYFIELD 1

Tyler Lautieri had the long goal for the visiting Warriors, assisted by Charlie Dee and Bryson Giersch.

HBDS is now 4-2 and will next visit Sanborn on Saturday.

GOFFSTOWN 2, MERRIMACK 0

The Tomahawks suffered a rare shutout, blanked by Grizzlies goalie Jake Webber while Cole Stafford and Xavier Bibaud got the visitors’ goals at West Side Arena.

Merrimack (2-4) hopes to snap a three-game skid Saturday at Portsmouth-Newmarket.

SOMERSWORTH/COE-BROWN 7, ALVIRNE-MILFORD 6

A heartbreaking loss for the Admirals, who actually tied it with 15 seconds left in regulation at Skate 3 and Somersworth-CB won it on a goal with just two seconds left.

Sal Pace had a hat trick for the locals while Hayden Ricard had two goals and two assists, and Matt Ryan a goal and four assists. Two freshmen, Landon Briand (two assists) and Colton Laroe (assist) contributed.

A-M is now 2-3 in Division II and visits Dover on Saturday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

MERRIMACK VALLEY 62, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 42

The Cavs fall to 0-6 despite 27 points from Cam Kump and 12 points and 10 rebounds by Alex Razaboni.

HB visits Pembroke on Friday.

MILFORD 68, SANBORN 52

Chuck Urda played a great all-around game with 25 points hile Kai Lau Quan and Will O’Connell added 11 each as the Spartans improved to 5-1.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 59, DRACUT 42

The Cardinals got 15 points from Caitlyn Wheeler as well as 12 apiece from Olivia Murray and Meghan Stack in their first out-of-state game of the season, improving to 5-0.

Guertin led 29-28 at the half before outscoring Dracut 30-14 in the second half. The Cards are back in-state at Memorial on Friday.

MILFORD 64, SANBORN 33

The Spartans bounced back from a tough Tuesday loss in a big way on the road, outscoring the hosts 37-14 in the second half to pull away.

Lulu Maguire led Milford (6-1) with 15 points, while Avery Fuller added 13 and Bailey Johnson 12.

Milford visits Bow on Friday.

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 66, HOLY FAMILY 42

The Warriors had their halfcourt offense working as Lexi Bausha had 21 points, followed by 16 by Ryleigh Smith and 14 by Bri Fish.

WLC is now 3-4 and hosts Moultonborough on Friday.

WRESTLING

BEDFORD 60, NASHUA SOUTH 18

It was a tough night for the Panthers in a dual meet with just points off pins by Damien Perez at 145, Anthony Fernandez at 182 and Connor Comeau at 220.

MERRIMACK 66, ALVIRNE 33

The Tomahawks got wins by Anty Lesmerises at 182 (pin), Tyler Hansbury at 220 (pin, 5:29), Emily Angelo at 132 (pin, 3:30), Mitchell Krupp at 145 (pin, 1:03), and Brendan Curley at 160 (pin, 2:22).

Alvirne’s points came via victories by Sam Avola at 195 (pin,0:12), and Landon Caiazzo at 170 (pin, 0:38) and a pair of forfeits.

MILFORD 45, PORTSMOUTH 27

The Spartans wrestled well with pins by Avery Wilson, Matt Ebert, Hunter Kolesar, Eli Wales, and Keagan Hatch, and a win via points by Evan O’Connell.

The Spartans will be at a quad meet at Souhegan on Saturday.
