The Bishop Guertin High School girls hockey team renewed acquaintances with rival Hanover on Monday and the results didn’t go the Cardinals’ way as they suffered their first loss of the season.

The Cards fell 5-2 at Campion Rink in West Lebanon. They trailed 1-0 on a late first period goal and then 2-0 as the Bears were awarded a penalty shot in the second period.

Guertin cut the margin to 2-1 on a goal by Jenna Lynch, assisted by freshman Carly Green. Hanover increased the lead to 3-1 but once again Lynch answered with a short side goal. However, that was as close as the Cards would come.

Juniors Jasmine Shattuck and Gracie Menicci played well, while goalie Scarlett Casey also kept the Cards (4-1-1) in the game.

Hanover improved to 3-1. Guertin is at Kingswood on Saturday, and will have a rematch with Hanover next Tuesday at Hudson’s Cyclones Arena at 4 p.m.
