HS Roundup: Bronco girls rout Pelham, Salem edges HB

It was a fairly slow high school day on Friday to basically wrap up the holiday week
But the Alvirne High School girls basketball team is glad it played, as it ended its three-day run at the Lady Blue Devil Classic in Salem with a 60-36 win over Pelham. And Hollis Brookline played well but just fell short vs. tourney host Salem.
The Broncos had three n double figures: Alyssa Scharn (17 points), Lexi Floyd (12) and Paige McKinley (11).
Alvirne led Pythons 12-9 after one but had 19 points in both the second and third quarters to blow things open.
“This was a good bounce-back win today,” Broncos coach Frank Girginis said.
Alvine, 1-3 in Division I regular season play, resumes its regular season slate on Tuesday vs. Windham.
SALEM 49, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 43
Camryn Dunn had 17 points, Daniella Alanach had 12 points while Cheyenne Colbert had six points but was super on the boards with 17 rebounds for the Cavs.
HB resumes regular season play at ConVal on Tuesday.

MERRIMACK GIRLS DO WELL AT PLYMOUTH
Alexis Best had a memorable Friday at the Univeristy of Southern Maine’s Gorham’s New Years Invitational Meet, setting two new school records in the dash and triple jump. She was first in the triple, second in the 55 dash and was on the second place sprint medley relay team.
Merrimack’s Kailey Dillon was second in the Pentathlon and second in the 400. Riley Parzych was eighth in the Pentathlon.
