It’s Championship Game Day once again for another local football team.

Last Saturday was the big day for Campbell football, and the Cougars emerged victorious over Trinity to win the Division III title.

The school they were playing at, Souhegan, will take its turn today, hoping for its second Divsion II crown in three years when it takes the field at Bedford High School’s Bulldog Stadium at 1 p.m.

The Sabers, No. 4 at 10-1, will take on a team that tortured Campbell and the rest of Division III over the last few year, No. 2, 11-0 Pelham. Pelham dominated that division, then moved up to Division II and has basically done the same thing.

It’s a fitting matchup. The only team that really gave the Pythons a game was Souhegan, as Pelham used a six-minute drive late in the fourth quarter to come away with a 28-21 win in Amherst a month ago, the next-to-last game of the regular season. Both teams were unbeaten going in, and Pelham scored with about half a minute left.

Last weekend, Souhegan rallied in the second half to knock off previously unbeaten and top seed Gilford-Belmont, 29-28, while Pelham downed No. 3 Bow, 28-7.

This game is not the only contest going on in the state today. In Division I, one of the biggest rivalries in the state resumes when No. 4 Pinkerton Academy takes on No. 1 Londonderry in the semifinals for the right to meet No. 10 Bedford in next Saturday’s 1 p.m. title game at Bill Ball Stadium in Exeter.

Last night, Bedford incredibly recorded its third straight shutout of the playoffs — and seventh of the season overall, blowing past No. 6 Timberlane in Plaistow. Colby Snow scored four TDs for Bedford, two passing and two receiving.

He caught TD passes of 56 and 53 yards from QB Danny Black, and had TD runs of 12 and 53.
