The question into the NHIAA Division I volleyball tournament that begins tonight is simple:

Can anyone stop Bedford?

Second seed Hollis Brookline (16-2) may have the best chance, having faced the No. 1, 18-0 Bulldogs back in the season’s first week.

If they see them again it will be in the finals, set for bright and early 10 a.m.at Pinkerton Academy on Saturday, Nov. 5.

The Cavaliers have a first-round bye, and will wait until Thursday for the quarterfinals when they face the winner of tonight’s Portsmouth-Goffstown prelim.

Three locals will be in action tonight. No. 5 Nashua North (13-5) will host No. 12 Windham (9-9) at 6 p.m., while an exit down the highway No. 8 Bishop Guertin (12-6) will host No. 9 Spaulding (11-7) at 6. Nashua South got the last tourney spot at No. 14 (7-11) and will be at No. 3 Londonderry (16-2).

North and Windham did not play but the winner get to visit No. 4 Exeter (14-4) on Thursday if the Blue Hawks get by No. 13 Concord in the first round. Guertin, if it wins, knows its destination – No. 1 Bedford on Thursday in the quarters. Gulp. The Panthers, if they pull the upset, would face either No. 6 Dover or No. 11 Pinkerton, either one on the road.

The semis are next Tuesday, Nov. 1 at Pinkerton at 5 and 7 p.m.

DIVISION II

This tourney doesn’t start until Thursday and has only two locals, No. 4 Campbell (11-3) and No. 9 Milford (9-7).

Campbell will host No. 13 Laconia (6-10) and the Spartans will hit the road to visit No. 8 Kingswood (9-7).

If the Cougars win, they would host either No. 5 St. Thomas (12-4) or No. 12 Manchester West (6-10) in Saturday’s quarterfinals. Milford would head to Oyster River on Saturday.

The semis are 5 and 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3 at Pinkerton Academy, with the finals at Pinkerton on Nov. 5 at 2 p.m.
