Division I Field Hockey: Cards fall 2-0 in quarters to Exeter
The Bishop Guertin High School field hockey team played a better game against No. 2 Exeter in Sunday’s Division I quarterfinals than it did in the regular season.
However, the result was the same.
The Cardinals, who lost to the Blue Hawks 5-2 in late September, played Exeter tough at Bill Ball Stadium but couldn’t muster enough offense in a 2-0 loss.
The game was scoreless at halftime but Danica Caron scored the only goal the Blue Hawks (15-1-1) would need with 8:38 left in the third period.
Exeter’s Elsa Bishop gave the Blue Hawks an insurance goal with 6:39 to play. Guertin’s season ends with the No. 7 Cards at 11-6-1. Guertin got a preliminary round win over Pinkerton in overtime this past Thursday.
Exeter will face No. 3 Windam (14-2-1) in Thursday’s 5 p.m. semifinals at Bill Ball Stadium. In the other semifinal, No. 1 Winnacunnet will take on No. 4 Dover, both with one-goal wins on Sunday. The Warriors edged Keene, 2-1 on an untimed penalty corner goal by Abby Wilber at the end of the fourth, while Dover got by No. 5 Bedford, 3-2.
