HS Roundup: Titan teams bounce back; Saber girls end streak
Monday was a day for some local high school teams to bounce back from tough losses or streaks, especially at Nashua North, where the Titan boys soccer team rebounded from a loss last week and North volleyball, which ended a three-match losing streak.
But none had the smiling success that Souhegan girls volleyball enjoyed, ending a 12-match losing streak.
Here’s the Monday report:
BOYS SOCCER
NASHUA NORTH 4, ALVIRNE 1
Cam Rodrigues had two goals while Arthur Santos and Sevastian Arango also tallied as the Titans improved to 12-3.
Sam Paintsal and Esteven Arango had assists on the day for North, which closes out the regular season Wednesday at Stellos vs. Manchester Central.
The Broncos, meanwhile, dropped their eighth straight to fall to 2-12, and host Dover today.
SOUHEGAN 2, PLYMOUTH 1 (OT)
Mike Erickson scored two minutes into overtime, assisted by Ryan Fillion, as the Sabers improved to 3-10.
Fillion scored in the 34th minute on a penalty kick to give Souhegan a 1-0 lead, but Plymouth’s Chance Twomey scored 11 minutes into the second half to tie it.
Finnegan Daly had five tough saves in goal for the Sabers, but Bobcat goalie Dash Ough had an impressive 16 saves, keeping the game tied until the OT.
Souhegan hosts Sanborn on Wednesday. Plymouth fell to 3-10-1.
GIRLS SOCCER
BISHOP GUERTIN 4, LONDONDERRY 0
Martha Lord had two goals and Alyson Guerette had a goal and an assist as the Cardinals improved to 12-2-1.
Katie Boudreau had BG’s other goal, while other assists went to Alexa Peseridis, Renee LeBlanc and Kate Daley.
Guertin hosts Hanover today at 6 p.m. at Stellos.
PINKERTON 4, NASHUA SOUTH 1
Soraya Ross, assisted by Addison Varley, got the Panthers’ lone goal as they fell to 7-8.
Peyton Renzi also played well for the Panthers, who close out the regular season Friday at Merrimack.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 9, KEENE 1
Addison Fyfe had four goals and an assist to lead the Cavs (13-2), while McKenna Maguire added three goals and an assist.
Others in the scoring column: Sienna Anderson (goal, assist), Lily Bouchard (goal, two assists), Paige Magnuszewski (two assists) and Lauren Holt (one assist).
Magnuszewski and fellow seniors Madeline Boudreau, Ea Kelley, McKenna Dunn and Morgan Kipp were honored before the game.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
NASHUA NORTH 3,MERRIMACK 0
The Titans (13-4) snapped a three-match losing streak with a 25-18, 25-12, 25-21 sweep paced by Alyssa Stanton’s eight kills, 10 digs and four aces.
Other contributors for North were Katrina Norton (six kills, seven digs, two aces), Ella Landry (five ills, four aces, six digs, one block), elechi Okorie (five kills, two digs, four blocks) and Mardy Novak (17 asits, two digs, two aces).
Lily Petrocelli led the ‘Hawks with five blocks and six kills. Merrimack fell to 1-14 and face Bedford today while the Titans wind up the regular season Friday at Hollis Brookline.
NASHUA SOUTH 3, GOFFSTOWN
The Panthers snapped a six-match skid by taking three straight sets (25-22, 25-17, 29-27) after dropping the first 25-19.
Four seniors led the way on Senior Night: Katie Garland (11 kills, seven assists, four blocks, three digs), Maddie L’heureux (18 assists, seven digs), Abby Kaplan (five kills, two digs, one block) and Isha Bachwal (six digs, three aces).
Now 6-10, South is at Timberlane on Wednesday,
CAMPBELL 3, KINGSWOOD 1
The Cougars recovered from falling 25-21 in an error (18) filled first set to come away with the win, 25-13, 25-18, 25-20.
Kristina Castellano led the way with eight kills, six digs and two aces. Kiana Henderson (seven kills), LeAnn Ramos (two aces, 19 digs) and Madison Bruner (seven aces, six kills, one block) also helped out.
Now 10-2, Campbell hosts Fall Mountain on Thursday.
SOUHEGAN 3, KENNETT 1
The Sabers (2-13) ended a 12-match skid with a 25-19, 28-26, 18-25, 25-22 victory.
Julia Coluntouni had seven kills while Alicia Kennedy added five. Jenna Wright had five aces while Juliana Koch had six aces and 12 digs.
Souhegan wraps up the season at home on Friday vs. Manchester West.
MILFORD 3, GILFORD 1
The Spartans dropped the first set 25-21 and then recovered to take the next three, 25-19, 25-19, 25-20 to move to 8-6.
Standouts for Milford included Hannah Harrington (six aces, seven digs, four kills, 28 assists), Alena Letendre (four aces, six digs, 17 kills), Bailey Johnson (16 kills), Abby Krulis (five kills, two blocks), Annalise Nassy (four kills, five digs) and Piper Greenhalgh (two aces, 14 digs).
Milford hosts Manchester West on Wednesday.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, CONCORD 0
The Cavaliers improved to 14-2 and will visit Londonderry on Wednesday. Concord fell to 6-10.
