HS Roundup: BG, Hollis Brookline, Merrimack post big wins

When you’re looking at some of the top teams locally in high school girls volleyball, don’t count out the Bishop Guertin Cardinals, who won their 11th match on Friday night.

In field hockey, don’t count out the Hollis Brookline Cavaliers, who captured their ninth win yesterday. And, in girls soccer, the Merrimack Tomahawks did the same.

Here’s a look at a fun Friday:

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 3, NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Cardinals (11-5) defeat the Panthers (5-10) 25-18, 25-17, 17-25, 25-7. Akira Coravos (eight aces, five kills), Brooke Muller (six kills, five blocks) and Larisa Comolli (six aces, five kills) led the way for BG.

Playing well for South were Katie Garland (11 kills, three assists, three aces), Maddie L’heureux (13 assists, four digs, four aces) and Molly Lecklider (13 digs, kill). BG visits Dover on Wednesday and South hosts Goffstown on Monday.

BEDFORD 3, NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans lose their third in a row by the scores of 20-25, 18-25, 20-25. Kailyn Sung (31 digs, two aces), Alyssa Stanton (30 digs, 14 kills, two aces) and Mardy Novak (17 assists, five kills, three digs, ace) contributed to the teams effort.

North hosts Merrimack on Monday.

ALVIRNE 3, KEENE 0

Laurin Carbonneau helped lead the Broncos (6-10) sweep of the Blackbirds on Friday. Diana McElhinney and Cienna Clay also played well for the locals. Alvirne hosts Pinkerton on Wednesday.

CONCORD 3, MERRIMACK 2

The Tomahawks (1-13) dropped their ninth consecutive match but battled hard in a 20-25, 25-18, 15-25, 25-15, 13-15 contest.

Sam Lynch (16 assists), Harley Twofoot (16 assists, four kills), Amelia Walker (eight kills) and Lily Petroceli (17 kills, five blocks) kept Merrimack on pace.

Merrimack visits Nashua North on Monday.

MILFORD 3, HANOVER 1

After a split of the first two sets (25-16, 11-25), the Spartans took off with 25-20 and 25-14 wins to improve to 7-6.

Senior captain Bailey Johnson led the way with 13 kills, three blocks, three aces and an assist. Another senior captain, Alena Letendre, had three aces, six digs, an assist and seven kills.

Also for Milford, Hannah Harrington (25 assists, two kills, five digs, an ace), Abby Krulis (seven kills, two digs) and Piper Greenhalgh (14 digs, an assist) helped out.

Milford is at Gilford on Monday.

GIRLS SOCCER

MERRIMACK 2, CONCORD 1

The Tomahawks (9-4-1) win a close contest Friday afternoon against Concord. Molly Perkins was the star of the game gathering up 18 saves.

Cara Sullivan and Lucy Cote put one goal each in the stat sheet. Bella Saxon and Kaleigh Dillion had assists. Merrimack visits Goffstown on Tuesday.

FIELD HOCKEY

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 7, BOW 2

The Cavaliers improve to 9-3-1 after a decisive win at Bow. Nyah Jernberg (assist) and Alyssa Hill led the scoring with a hat trick and two goals respectively. Sabrina Hill had a goal and an assist, Lindsey Dattis scored a goal and Bella Haytayan dished off two assists.

Meghan Park and Rae Kline (six saves) led the defense. HB visits Goffstown on Saturday to wrap up the regular season.
