HS Roundup: North, South volleyball teams get big wins

Don’t look now, but the Nashua High School North girls volleyball team will be taking a 7-0 record into Wednesday’s Battle of the Bridge match with Nashua South at the Panthers’ Belanger Gym.

Both North and South won on Monday in a volleyball-heavy night. Meanwhile, the Bishop Guertin field hockey team blanked Merrimack.

Let’s take a look at the action that was either indoors or took place before the storms arrived:

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

NASHUA NORTH 3, WINNACUNNET 0

The Titans were led by Alyssa Stanton’s seven aces, eight kills and nine digs, but also got a good effort from, among others, Ella Landry (four aces, four kills), Mardy Novak (13 assists, four aces, one kill, five digs) and Kayleen O’Day (three kills, one block, one dig).

Winnacunnet dropped its sixth straight (1-6). Wednesday’s North-South match s set for 6:30 p.m.

NASHUA SOUTH 3, ALVIRNE 1

The 3-3 Panthers, who stopped a three-match skid, took the final two sets, 27-25, 25-21 after splitting the first two, 25-21, 14-25. Ashley Zaulyczny had 11 digs, seven kills and an ace while Mia Suljic (14 kills, 10 digs) and Hayleigh Hicks (nine kills, two digs) also had good nights.

Playing well for the Broncos were Jaelyn Green (serving and digs), Erin Stevens (all-around), and Abby St. Laurent (strong right side hitting).

The Broncos are at Hollis Brookline on Wednesday.

DOVER 3, MERRIMACK 0

The Tomahawks played better as the match went on but still fell 25-14, 25-19, 26-24. Harley Twofoot had 10 assists while Mia Mantini (five digs) and Lily Petrocelli (four kills, two blocks) also played well.

Merrimack hosts Bishop Guertin on Wednesday.

EXETER 3, BISHOP GUERTIN 1

The Cardinals’ roller coaster season continues as they fell to 4-3, despite taking the first set 25-19. The Blue Hawks (6-1) captured the next three by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-21.

Meg Stack had eight kills and one block, while Brooke Muller (six kills, three blocks) and Lansa Comolli (six kills, three blocks) also played well.

BG is at Merrimack on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, SALEM 0

The Cavaliers improved to 6-1 with a 3-0 sweep as Kate Berrigan had five kills, three aces and two blocks.

Annette Schlunk had six kills while Anneli DiVirgilio (five aces), Gwynn Thonmas (16 assists) and Maia Schneider (eight digs) also helped out.

HB hosts Alvirne on Wednesday.

FIELD HOCKEY

BISHOP GUERTIN 4, MERRIMACK 0

The Cardinals seem to be hitting their stride, now 5-2-1 after a goal and an assist each by Maddie Harrington and Katy Paveglio. Jordan Gaebel and Sophia Alton also scored, while Maddy Hartsock also added an assist.

The Tomahawks’ struggles continue, as they fell to 1-8 after suffering their sixth straight loss. Merrimack hosts Bedford on Wednesday while BG hosts Londonderry.

GOLF

MANCHESTER CENTRAL 206, BG 213, NORTH 216, MEMORIAL 238

The Cards, in finishing second at Derryfield Country Club, were led by Connor Bouvier’s 41, while Jacob Caron had a 42, Owen Murphy and Ethan Casey with a 43 and Joe DeKarski and Maria Tribou added a 44 each.

Drew Goulet led North with a 41, while Jack Sullivan, Jeff Maddock and Owen White each had a 43 and Jacob Landry, 46.
