HS Roundup: BG sweeps PA; Broncos edge Merrimack

Not this year.

Last year the Pinkerton Academy Astros handed Bishop Guertin its only girls soccer loss of the season. But on Tuesday they topped the Astros in Derry for their third win on the season.

While Nashua North and South boys soccer was postponed – rescheduled for today – Alvirne and Merrimack tangled in boys and girls soccer with the Broncos coming up with a pair of thrilling 2-1 wins. And the BG boys got a win, blanking Pinkerton for the sweep.

Hollis Brookline field hockey also won in dramatic fashion. Add a little golf and volleyball, and you’ve got a full rundown of a busy Tuesday:

GIRLS SOCCER

BISHOP GUERTIN 5, PINKERTON 2

Brooke Paquette scored two goals while Katie Boudreau had a goal and an assist as the Cards moved to 3-0 on the season.

Kendra Haley and Katie Daley also scored for the Cards. Other assists on the day were by Alexa Peseridis, Kendra Haley, Sydney Pho and Mia Barba.

Guertin will host Timberlane Thurday at 6 at Stellos Stadium.

ALVIRNE 2, MERRIMACK 1 (OT)

Paige Boudreau scored the game-winner with about a minute left in overtime as the Broncos improved to 2-4 while handing the Tomahawks their first loss (3-1).

Emma Coppi scored for Alvirne in the second half to tie the game. Assists on the day went to Mallory Busnach and Lyla Davis.

Busnach, Davis, Elaina Richards and Alekhya Buddhiraju played well in midfield for the winners, while Jamie O’Connor played well defensively in front of keeper Paige McKinley (seven saves).

Alvirne hosts Winnacunnet on Thursday while Merrimack is at Nashua North on Saturday morning at Stellos Stadium.

BOYS SOCCER

BISHOP GUERTIN 3, PINKERTON 0

The Cardinals won their second straight to improve to 3-1 thanks to two Rayaan Hameed goals and a single tally by Grevaan Singh. Keeper Beau Boughter had six saves to earn the shutout.

Guertin visits Timberlane on Thursday.

ALVIRNE 2, MERRIMACK 1

The Broncos (2-3) snapped a three-game skid with goals from Cody Forrence and Matt Branco, while Derek Boulanger added two assists.

Owen Suprenant was a key in goal for Alvirne, which is at Winnacunnet on Thursday. Merrimack (2-4) is off until it hosts Portsmouth next Tuesday.

CONVAL 3, SOUHEGAN 0

The Sabers couldn’t find a way to stop the Cougars’ Jake Daniels, who had all three goals, as they fell to 0-4.

Finnegan Daly had nine saves in the Souhegan goal. The Sabers host Pelham Thursday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2, PEMBROKE 0

Hunter Crea scored two goals as the visiting Cavaliers improved to 5-0 on the season. Crea’s first goal came just 6:30 in , assisted by Ben Dufoe on a play that began with a long Zack Lussier throw-in.

Crea’s second score came in in the 34th minute, assisted by Nate McEvoy.

McEvoy, Lussier, J.P. Torgersen, Tomas Anderson and James Kelley all played well defensively in front of goalie John Sommer.

HB hosts Milford Thursday at 7 p.m.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

CONCORD 3, NASHUA SOUTH 2

The Panthers took the first two sets, 25-15, 26-24, but couldn’t finish the deal as the Tide took the next three, 25-21, 26-24, and in a tight deciding set, 17-15.

Ishanvi Bachwal had 20 digs, four assists and one ace while Sophia Miranda added 13 assists, two digs, and eight aces. Abby Kaplan (seven kills, two digs, one block) and Ashley Zaulyczny (six kills, three aces, eight digs) also contributed for the Panthers, now 2-1 and at Spaulding tonight.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, KEENE 0

The Cavaliers moved to 3-1 with a 27-5, 25-12, 25-11 sweep.

Annette Schlunk led the way with 11 aces, while Anika Carlson (four kills), Rachel Sheppard (nine assists), Gwynn Thomas (seven assists, two blocks) and Malaya Colena (five digs) were also keys.

HB is at Pinkerton today.

ALVIRNE 3, MERRIMACK 2

The 3-1 Broncos pulled out a tight one, taking the second set 25-23, the third 25-20, and the decisive fifth set 15-11 for their third straight victory.

Merrimack(0-3) started off with a 25-19 win and forced a fifth set with a 25-20 win in set four.

Playing well for the Broncos were senior captains Laurin Carbonneau (middle hitter) and Erin Stevens (right side hitter).

Leaders for the Tomahawks were Lily Petrocelli (nine kills, seven digs, eight aces), Lillyu Marshall (four blocks) and Harley Twofoot (13 assists).

Merrimack is at Exeter tonight while Alvirne visits Bedford on Friday.

FIELD HOCKEY

HOLIS BROOKLINE 2, MERRIMACK VALLEY 1

It was drama galore for the Cavs as with no time on the clock, HB got a penalty corner and Alyssa Hill scored the game-winner.

MV scored in the first half, but the Cavs tied it in the third quarter on a goal by Nyah Jernberg off a penalty corner. HB kept the pressure on thereafter.

Now 3-2, the Cavs host Laconia on Thursday.

GOLF

PINKERTON 213, BISHOP GUERTIN 218, CENTRAL 225, MERRIMACK 242

The Cardinals took second at Nashua Country Club thanks to a 41 by Connor Bouvier, Jacob Caron (42), Joe DeKarski (43), and a 46 each by Brady Dumont and Maria Tribou.

Jackson Woods had a 44, Daniel Lavigne a 45 and Matt Licata a 49 for Merrimack. Pinkerton’s Julianna Megan was the match medalist with a 40.

TIMBERLANE 216, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 236, PEMBROKE 238, KINGSWOOD 239

The Cavaliers got a 45 from both Reid Mitchell and Lauren Mauch to take second in the quad match at Atkinson Country Club. Martin Bergeron added a 47, while Alex Razzaboni had a 48 and Cavan Quinn a 50.

Timberlane’s Stephen Ramos was the medalist with a 38.

BOW 186, WINDHAM 202, MILFORD 231

Brady Hansen led Milford with a 43 at Amherst Country Club. Also playing well for the Spartans were Hunter Kolesar (44), Aidan Weissenee (46) and Jack Bastarache (48).
