HS Roundup: South edges Alvirne; local volleyball teams win

The Nashua High School South boys soccer team keeps finding ways to win, as the Panthers won a tight one in Hudson on Wednesday to highlight a busy day of local action that also included five winning volleyball teams, plus a cross country meet chock full of locals.

Let’s take a look:

BOYS SOCCER

NASHUA SOUTH 1, ALVIRNE 0

Jadiel Bomfim scored the only goal of the game to put the Panthers (3-0) past the Broncos (1-2). Marlon Brocher, Joona Hantula and Revin Olsen gave South the upper hand on both sides of the field. South visits Bishop Guertin and Alvirne hosts Windham on Thursday.

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 5, HINSDALE 1

Austin Kimball nets four goals to lead the Warriors to their first win of the season. Alex Nelson added a goal and two assists. Rob Gagnon had an assist, while Joe Krug and Ben Jacob led the defense. WLC visits Concord Christian on Friday.

GIRLS SOCCER

SOUHEGAN 2, LACONIA 1

Kelsey Lockitt scored both Saber (1-2) goals in the second half after a clean sweep as goaltender in the first. Souhegan visits ConVal on September 13.

FIELD HOCKEY

PINKERTON 5, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Panthers (0-4) offensive woes continue as they suffer their fourth straight shutout loss. Kaitlyn Tello made 12 saves in goal. Erin Flaherty, Karina O’Donnell, Maddie Berthiaume, Krista Reid and Wylie Hart played well in the loss. South visits Londonderry on Friday.

LONDONDERRY 3, MERRIMACK 1

The Tomahawks fall to 1-3 after a loss to the Lancers. Hailey Rivet scored the lone goal and Courtney Farrar made seven saves in net. Merrimack will host Exeter on Friday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 3, PINKERTON 1

The Cardinals (2-1) get the best of the Astros winning 16-25, 25-15, 25-10, 25-17. Larisa Comolli (11kills, three aces, two aces), Veronica Gomez (15 digs, two aces), Meg Stack (five kills) and Brooke Partridge (18 assists, three aces) led the way for the Cardinals.

BG hosts Hollis Brookline on Friday.

NASHUA NORTH 3, SALEM 1

The Titans (2-0) defeat the Blue Devils 25-21, 19-25, 27-25, 25-18. Alyssa Stanton (11 kills, 12 digs, two aces), Kailyn Sung (12 digs, two aces), Sasha Riabova (19 assists, three digs, two aces) and Kelechi Okorie (four kills, two blocks) were North’s top performers. North visits Keene on Friday.

NASHUA SOUTH 3, WINNACUNNET 0

The Panthers open the new season with a sweep of the Warriors by the scores of 25-23, 25-17, 25-22. Ashley Zaulyczny (eight kills, seven aces), Maddy L’Heureux (15 assists, three aces) and Katie Garland (10 kills, two blocks) led the offense. South hosts Manchester Memorial on Friday.

ALVIRNE 3, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 0

The Broncos move to an even 1-1 after their sweep on Wednesday. Jaelyn Green, Erin Stevens and Laurin Carbonneau played well for the locals. Alvirne hosts Concord on Friday.

MILFORD 3, PELHAM 1

The Spartans finished off the Pythons by the scores of 23-18, 22-25, 27-25, 25-19. Alena Letendre (10 digs, four kills, two aces), Bailey Johnson (seven kills, one block, one assist, one ace), Hannah Harrington (21 assists, four kills, three aces) and Abby Krulis (nine kills, two blocks, two aces) and Kylie Allen (four kills, three aces) made major contributions in the win. Milford hosts Kingswood on Friday.

LONDONDERRY 3, MERRIMACK 1

The Tomahawks fall to the Lancers by the scores of 12-25, 11-25, 25-22, 15-25. Lily Petroceli (10 digs), Lilly Marshall (four kills), Amelia Walker (four blocks) and Harley Twofoot (seven assists) played well despite the loss. Merrimack hosts Goffstown on Friday.

GOLF

ST. THOMAS 200, ALVIRNE 220, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 221, MILFORD 230

The local teams were ousted by St. Thomas at Whip-Poor-Will golf course. Alvirne’s Noah LeClair was a medalist shooting a 34. Hall, Jack Hurrell and Small all shot a 45 for the Broncos.

Cavan Quinn shot a 39, Reid Mitchell had a 40 and Bergeron had a 45 for the Cavaliers. Milford’s Hansen (40), Kolesar (45) and Pierce (46) finished the day strong.

LONDONDERRY 212, NASHUA NORTH 235, MERRIMACK 259

The Titans and Tomahawks were no match for the Lancers at Souhegan Woods. Eva Gonzalez and Jeff Maddock shot a 44 and Drew Goulet had a 47 for North.

Nolan Rousseau led Merrimack with a 49, Jackson Woods had a 50 and Lucas Mantini had a 52.

CROSS COUNTRY

BRONCO RUNNERS FINISH FIRST

Alvirne’s Anna Simpson (20:39) and Nick Marcotte (17:10) made use of their home trail, by winning the girls and boys races Wednesday afternoon. Brynna Anderson placed fifth and Jennifer Herbert was seventh for the Broncos. Leo Bunkartas finished in the runner up position behind his teammate and Brent Dunning has a solid 10th place finish.

BG’s Anna Fondakowski placed third with Lyla Masson (fourth) and Katie Kraft (sixth) following. Theodore Bond paced the Cardinals boys ending the day in third, while Carson Fisher was seventh and Sam Prescott in eighth. Merrimack’s Melanie Bedard had a solid run in second and her teammates Megan McWhirter and Zosia Yellin finished in 12th and 13th respectively. Tristan Plumb ended the race in fourth, Nathan Beauregard was fifth and Aidan Koss past the line in sixth for the Tomahawks.
