HS Roundup: Big wins for South, BG nines; BG softball wins

A few local diamond teams took advantage of a sun-splashed Wednesday to post some big wins. Nashua South and Bishop Guertin are on the right baseball path as they streak toward the tournament. Same with Hollis Brookline and Milford.

Meanwhile, the BG, Alvirne, Hollis Brookline and Merrimack softball teams all came out on top.

Here are the details on a wild Wednesday:

BASEBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 5, TIMBERLANE 4 (8 innings)

The Cardinals finished off the regular season 13-7 after clawing their way past the Owls, winning in the bottom of the eighth in walk-off fashion on Adam Wetherbee’s RBI single.

Cooper Granville grabbed the win going 1.1 innings allowing one hit and striking out three.

BG was led offensively by Max Riordan (hit, two runs, RBI) and Kam Thibault (hit, two runs, RBI).

NASHUA SOUTH 10, MANCHESTER CENTRAL-WEST 4

Jake O’Connor recorded two hits, three RBIs and a stolen base in the Panthers (13-5) sixth consecutive win. River Hart had four hits, two stolen bases and three RBIs and Dean Adams added two hits and three RBIs. O’Connor also pitched five innings allowing one hit and striking out four. South visits Keene on Friday.

SPAULDING 2, NASHUA NORTH 1

The Titans (7-11) fall in close game against Spaulding. Elias Bourque allowed three hits. North visits Windham in Friday.

DOVER 8, ALVIRNE 4

The Broncos (4-14) lose their fifth straight game after a road loss to Dover. Kyle Dufour (hit, RBI), Ethan Moccia (hit, two RBIs), DJ Thibeault (two hits, RBI), Austin Ouellette (hit, run) and Reece Baker (hit, run) played well at the plate.

Alvirne hosts Spaulding on Friday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 4, ST. THOMAS 1

The Cavaliers (14-1) win collect their fifth win in a row on the heels of a great performance from Padraig MacSeain. MacSeain went six innings giving up four hits and struck out eight. He would also add a double and two RBIs. Aiden Dufoe (triple, two RBIs) and Zak Lussier (double, two runs) helped lead the way on offense. HB visits John Stark on Friday.

DERRYFIELD 7, WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 2

The Warriors (9-6) five game winning streak ends with a loss to Derryfield. Ty Bacci had three hits. WLC visits Franklin on Friday.

MILFORD 9, CONVAL 3

The Spartans jumped out to an early lead to grab a win over ConVal on Wednesday. Jake Lammi took the win allowing six hits, three runs and striking out nine over six innings. Chris Bedard, Logan Howard, Sean Daykin and Lammi managed two hits each. Milford finishes the season with a record of 6-10.

SOFTBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 10, TIMBERLANE 1

The Cardinals (11-7) end the season with three straight wins. Sophie Bilodeau led the offense with two hits, a run and three RBIs. Maddy Bowen had three hits and two runs. Meghan Davey gave up three hits and struck out three in the circle.

MANCHESTER CENTRAL 15, NASHUA SOUTH 4

The Panthers (2-15) fall for the seventh consecutive time after a loss to the Kings. Elizabeth DeRusha took the loss allowing 12 hits, 15 runs and struck out six in seven innings. Aundrea McCarthy and Natalia Rogers led South with two hits apiece. South hosts Keene on Friday.

MERRIMACK 11, KEENE 4

The Tomahawks (10-7) grab a home win against the Blackbirds on Wednesday. Avery Hui (two hits), Hayden Stuart (two hits), Morgan Goodspeed (double, RBI) and Grace Lawton (two hits) led the offense.

Merrimack visits Salem on Thursday.

ALVIRNE 11, DOVER 3

The Broncos won their sixth straight to stand at 11-6, and will wrap up the regular season at Spaulding on Friday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 15, HANOVER 4

The Cavaliers improve to 10-5 after a big offensive day. Kailey Disco (double, RBI), Abby Wallis (RBI), Emily Sartell (RBI), Meghan Park (RBI), Katie Carr (single, two RBIs), Ally Johnson (two singles, RBI), Addy Marchant (two singles), Sophia Brickner (single), Austyn Kump (single, RBI), Olivia Colantuonio (single), Katrina Lee (two singles, RBI) and Emily Tebbetts (two singles, two RBIs) put their names in the scoresheet. Johnson pitched seven innings allowing two hits with six strikeouts.

HB visits John Stark on Friday.

BOYS LACROSSE

NASHUA SOUTH 13, KEENE-MONADNOCK 1

The Panthers (14-4) end the regular season winning four straight. Nate Campbell tallied four goals and an assist, Connor Rowsell chipped in three goals and an assist and Griffin Johnson added two goals and four assists to lead the locals.

Rhett Medling (two goals, assist), Mike Rutstein (two assists), Parker Fleury (two goals) and Ethan Johnson (four saves) contributed to the win.

MERRIMACK 16, NASHUA NORTH 7

The Tomahawks take down the Titans to win their fourth straight contest. Luke Stimeling and Cameron Duby scored their first varsity goals, while Ethan Matte recorded his first varsity assist in Merrimack’s win. North’s Ashton Carroll and Adeen Ahmed scored one goal apiece with Devyn Lavoie making five saves.

Merrimack ends the regular season at 9-7 and North (1-16) will visits Manchester Memorial-West on Thursday for their season finale.

WINDHAM 8, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 7

The Cavaliers (5-10) end up on the wrong side in a battle with the Jaguars. Tommy Anderson and JP Torgersen (assist) found the back of the net twice. Jake Roy (two assists), Connor Cook and Ben Dufoe (assist) added one goal each. Tucker Luter had 19 saves in net and Justin Colby won 17 face-offs.

HB hosts Pembroke on Friday.

PLYMOUTH 11, MILFORD 10

The Spartans conclude their season at 3-11 after a loss to Plymouth. Harris Jones had five goals and two assists, Jack Seale chipped in with two goals and three assists, Hugh Palmer had two goals and Logan Barnhill added a goal and two assists.

James Brew had 10 saves in net; while Luca DeRosa, Tyler Descoteaux and Justin Desmarais helped out on defense.

GIRLS LACROSSE

LONDONDERRY 11, NASHUA SOUTH 9

The Panthers (12-5) lose a close game to the Lancers on Wednesday. Ella Benzekri collected five goals and eight draw controls. Kaitlyn West and Maren Lowell had two goals apiece and Morgan Uzdanovich contributed an assist. Keira Walsh had three saves in net. South visits Keene on Thursday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 14, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 4

Alyssa Hill tallied three goals and three assists in the Cavaliers (13-3) win. Ireland Stark (two goals, assist), Kaitlyn Castriotta (two goals), Nicole Hieter (goal, three assists), Juliette Ogren (goal), Samantha Smith (goal), Hallie Bardani (goal, six saves), Paige Mello (goal), Abbie Ogren (goal), Bella Haytayan (three assists), McKenna Maguire (assist) and Julia Vella (assist, six draw controls) were key players for the locals.

HB visits Goffstown on Friday.

PORTSMOUTH 18, SOUHEGAN 8

The Sabers eight game winning streak was snapped by the Clippers on Wednesday. Elle Stevenson led the offense with five goals and two assists. Emma Kennedy (two assists, three groundballs), Lyla Kimball (goal, five groundballs) and Natalie Heimarck (two goals, assist, three draw controls, three groundballs) and Shannon Hargreaves (18 saves) made contributions for the locals. Souhegan ends the regular season at 11-4.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

MASCENIC 3, BISHOP GUERTIN 1

The Cardinals (2-12) lose to Mascenic by the scores of 15-25, 20-25, 25-22, 11-25. Trent Rider had 11 digs, seven kills and two aces with Sam Kouchalakos added six kills and an ace. BG hosts Dover on Thursday.
