The busy season is about to get underway this week.

Fasten your seat belts as local sports takes its collective game to the next level. The Nashua Silver Knights will open up at Holman Stadium on Thursday , the high school team tennis tournaments begin this week, the Division track championships are this coming Friday and Saturday, and the remaining sports: boys and girls lacrosse, baseball, softball and boys volleyball enter their final regular season week (although volleyball actually spills into next Tuesday).

Here’s a glance:

HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS

The Division I, II and III boys and girls tennis tournaments start on Tuesday and Wednesday with the prelims and quarterfinals Thursday and Friday.

The official pairings come out today, and taking an early look Bishop Guertina and Nashua North should have prelims in boys in Division I (not sure but it’s possible they could play each other) as well as Souhegan in Division II. Nashua South should get a boys bye into the Thursday quarters.

In girls, the prelims are Wednesday, with Nashua North, South and Bishop Guertin expected to make the cut but be on the road. Souhegan at 13-1 is a Division II contender and after a 5-4 win over Alvirne on Sunday, it would give the Sabers a likely bye and the Broncos would host a first-round match. But again, that’s all unofficial.

Here are the details on yesterday’s morning match:

GIRLS TENNIS

SOUHEGAN 5, ALVIRNE 4

The Sabers took the first four singles matches on the ladder then got the clincher at No. 1 doubles.

Singles winners were Maddie Daniel (8-0), Caroline Drumm (8-4), Mishka Tower (8-4) and Tylee Jancar (8-4). Daniel and Tower teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doules to clinch things.

Alvirne (11-3) got singles wins at Nos. 5 and 6 from Lindssey Gesde (8-0) and Emma Coppi (8-2).

Gabbi Cummins/Kenzie Legg (8-1) and Gesde/Marissa Murphy (8-2) got doubles wins.

HS BOYS & GIRLS TRACK

Wow, the locals have contenders both individually and team galore. Nashua North will have strengh in trying to defend its boys and girls Division I titles, with Nashua South having a good regular season on both ends. In Division II, Souhegan and Milford have been strong in both boys and girls. The Division I Meet is Friday at Salem High School at 4 p.m., while the Division II Meet is Saturday at 10 a.m.at Pelham. Campbell will compete in the Division III meet Saturday right after at Pelham at 3 p.m.

HIGH SCHOOL REGULAR SEASON

Games to see this week may be Nashua South-Pinkerton boys lacrosse at Stellos or South at Pinkerton girls on Monday; on Tuesday there’s a great baseball doubleheader at Holman with Nashua South hosting Bedford at 4 p.m. and North-Bishop Guertin playing their makeup of a rained out game that night at 7. Merrimack softball, which will be a tough tourney team along with Alvirne and Bishop Guertin, has a good test Friday at Salem.

NASHUA SILVER KNIGHTS

It’s here already, the season opener, set for Thursday at Holman at 6 p.m. vs. the Pittsfield Suns, and the Knights are also home Saturday night at 6 vs. the Worcester Bravehearts.

Players report to Holman early afternoon on Tuesday, with meetings and a brief workout, and will also work out at the Stadium on Wednesday.
