High School Roundup: North’s Novak, BG lax big winners

It’s always 85 plus degrees on days when there’s a big local track meet, but Nashua North’s Madelyn Novak was hotter than the weather with her performance Saturday at the annual Nashua North Invitational, winning three events.

Also Saturday was another big day for Bishop Guertin lacrosse as the Cardinals boys and girls teams did the job against two tough, highly ranked out of state opponents.

Here’s your Saturday sports rundown for local schools:

BOYS & GIRLS TRACK

NASHUA NORTH INVITATIONAL

Although team scores weren’t posted, the Titans appeared to dominate the girls meet thanks in part to Novak.

She led the way for North as a triple winner, as she took the shot put in 36-2.275 as well as the discus at 108-4 and the javelin at 101-11.

In the girls meet, Rosalinda Tavarez of host Nashua North won the 100 meters in 12.99 seconds and was second in the 200.

North’s Dante Braccio won the mile in 5:16.46, edging BG’s Mary-Kate Finn, and Titan Isabella Di Vernieri won the 300 hurdles in 48.82 (the Titans took the top three spots).

North’s foursome of Olivia Mazerolle, Rosalinda Tavarez, Isabella Di Vernieri and Christina Juris won the 4×400 in 4:17.20.

Mazerolle captured the high jump in 5-0;

Nashua South’s 4×100 relay team of Soraya Ross, Iyana Braswell, Emily Ostrowski and Mia Cruz won in 49.84, two seconds ahead of North.

BG’s Anna Fondakowski captured the two-mile in 12:58.97.

In the boys meet, local winners included Josh Rivers of Bishop Guertin in the mile (4:42.59) and BG’s Matt Giardina in the two-mile (10:02.93.

Nashua South’s Rory Olsen captured the 300 hurdles in 40.42 seconds, and the Panthers’ 4×400 relay team of Keith O’Donnell, Barion Perry, Alex Thibeault and Olsen won in 3:34.60.

Nashua North’s 4×100 relay team of Issac Smith, Xavier Francis, Nick DiGesse and Andrew Frye was victorious in 45.55. Colin Cantwell took the pole vault at 12-0 and fellow Titan Ethan Preston-Texeira captured the long jump at 19-1 as well as the triple jump at 38-5.

And finally, North’s Jack Washam captured the discus at 144-4.

SPARTANS SWEEP

The Milford boys (110 points) and girls (94) captured their respective meets with Campbell, Hollis Brookline and ConVal.

Campbell was second in both (47 boys, 64 girls), with HB third (36 boys, 45 girls) and ConVal fourth (22, 24).

Local winners in the boys meet included, for Milford: Nate Pettengill in the 100 (11.72) and 200 (24.63), Daniel Sixon in the 1600 (4:55.72), Luc Pelletier in the 3200 (12:30.40), Adam Holodowski in the 110 and 300 hurdles (18.89 45.31),

Caden Zalenski in the shot put (50-0.5), Christian Waller in the discus (105-3) and the Milford 4×100 relay team

For Campbell: D.J. Chaudhry in the 400 (52.87), Austin McHugh in the high jump (5-10) and long jump (19-0), Justi edmds in the javelin (155-0) and the 4×400 relay team.

For the Cavaliers: Ryan Burgher in the 800 (2:04.16) and Marcus McCammack in the triple jump (36-1).

Local girls winners by school were as follows:

Milford: Annalise Nassy in the 100 (13.27), Abbey Halloran in the 800 (2:39.64), Victoria Cornaro in the 1600 (6:01.31), Caroline Raiano in the 3200 (14:24.43), Sarah Sawyer in the triple jump (31-7.25), Kylie Allen in the shot put (31-10.25) and discus (83.5), plus the 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams.

Campbell: Ava Houle in the 200 (27.76) and long jump (16-10), Dasia Kham in the 400 (1:04.96),

Hollis Brookline: Claire Ballou in the 100 and 300 hurdles (19.51, 57.09).

GIRLS LACROSSE

BISHOP GUERTIN 12, FRANKLIN (Mass.) 10

The Cardinals continued their good play in tough games against tough out of state teams.

The Cardinals got four goals each from Nat Coutu and Rylee Bouvier, plus three goals and three assists from Lauren Redfern to lead the way to improve to 12-0-1. Ariana Kouchalakos added a goal and an assist while Steph Reap and Kamryn Schmitt each had an assist.

The Cards led 7-3 at the break, jumped out to a 9-3 lead but were outscored 7-3 the rest of the way, playing defense almost exclusively down the stretch as Makenna Reekie had a good game in goal.

Kaitlyn Carney and Kate O’Rourke each had at least three goals for Franklin.

BOYS LACROSSE

BISHOP GUERTIN 15, LASALLE 8

The Cardinals broke open a close 5-4 game with seven straight goals, beating one of the top teams in Rhode Island at Stellos Stadium.

Aiden Laurendeau had at least four goals while other scorers included Jacob Caron, Quinn Cepiel (two), Connor Guibord,Caleb Yeung, Connor Bouvier (two), Tim Kiely, Brady Dumont (two) and J.J. Murphy.

BOYS TENNIS

BISHOP GUERTIN 9, KEENE 0

The Cards improved to 10-2 with a clean sweep. Singles winners were Dean Liakos (8-2), Gavin Bombara (8-4), Ryan Wallat (8-1), Aditya Prasad (8-3), Sean Cairns (8-4), and Will Moynihan (8-5).

The doubles teams of Liakos/Bombara (8-4), Wallat/Prasad (9-7) and Cairns Moynihan (8-5) completed the sweep.

Guertin, winners of six straight, hopes to keep it going Monday at Winnacunnet.
