HS Roundup: Tough losses for Nashua nines; Milford wins

Break up the Spartans. After the Milford High School baseball team started the season 0-8, it has rebounded to win its last three games, indluding Thursday’s. However, the Nashua North and South teams struggled yesterday.

In girls tennis, don’t look now but the Alvirne Broncos are 10-1 after beating Hollis Brookline.

Here’s a look at those and other games/events on Thursday, including the return of the Merrimack Invitational track meet after a two-year absence:

BASEBALL

SPAULDING 3, NASHUA SOUTH 2

The Panthers’ rough week continued in Rochester as they dropped their third game in three days, despite the play of River Hart, who had a triple and three stolen bases, and the pitching of Jake O’Connor.

The Panthers, now 7-5, hope to halt the skid tonight at Holman Stadium at 7 vs. local rival Bishop Guertin (8-6).

PINKERTON 8, NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans sit at an even 7-7 after a loss to the Astros. Derek Finlay (two hits), Brady Mason (two hits) and Colin Holbrook (hit) played well for the locals.

North hosts Trinity on Monday.

MILFORD 11, LEBANON 9

The Spartans (3-8) pickup their third consecutive win with a road win against Lebanon. Michael Lima (three hits), Damian Philbrick, Logan Howard and Nick Conforti managed multiple hits. Lima also got the win on the mound and Landon Pierce grabbed the save. Milford hosts Oyster River on Monday.

SOFTBALL

PINKERTON 20, NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans (0-12) had no answer for the Astros Thursday afternoon. Hope Blondin, Tylea Wong and Cailin Carbonneau each recorded a single. Taylor Joyal pitched her first game lasting three innings. North visits Manchester West-Trinity on Monday.

WINNACUNNET 5, MERRIMACK 0

The Tomahawks get shutout on the road placing their record at 8-4. Morgan Goodspeed, Grace Lawton and Lily Dionne had two hits each. Avery Hui gave up five runs on six hits, while striking out four. Merrimack hosts Manchester Central-Memorial on Monday.

BOYS LACROSSE

TRINITY 8, MILFORD 4

The Spartans (2-8) lose their fourth straight contest on Thursday. Logan Barnhill scored two goals; while Harris Jones and Tyler Descoteaux had one goal each and Jack Seale had an assist. James Brew collected 12 saves with Justin Desmarais and Luca DeRosa played well on defense. Milford hosts Hopkinton on Monday.

MERRIMACK 7, BEDFORD 3

The Tomahawks (5-6) defeat the Bulldogs for the first time in program history on Thursday afternoon. Kyle Dunn (two goals, assist), Matthew Todd (assist), Shea Goodwin (goal), Jackson Forbes (two goals, two assists), Ryan Rezendes (two assists), Alec Vietry (assist), Connor Dunn (goal) and Alex Griffin (10 saves) led the way for the locals. Merrimack visits Keene on Monday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 16, CONVAL 4

The Cavaliers (9-2) hot streak continues with a decisive win against ConVal. Alyssa Hill (four assists, eight draw controls) and Juliette Ogren (assist) led the offense with four goals apiece. Ireland Stark recorded a hat trick and Paige Mello had two goals and four assists. Rounding out the scoring were Bella Haytayan (goal), Cailean Roy (goal), Kaitlyn Castriotta (goal), Abbie Ogren (assist) and Sabrina Hill (assist). Hallie Bardani made eight saves in net. HB hosts Windham on Monday.

ALVIRNE 10, SPAULDING 8

The Broncos (1-9) end the drought and win their first game of the season. Maddy Nicolosi scored five goals, Halle Miller collected four goals and two assists, Elas Ferullo had two goals and an assist and Alexa Kruger made 12 saves in net. Alvirne hosts Nashua North on Monday.

GIRLS TENNIS

ALVIRNE 6, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3

The Broncos (10-1) win their fifth straight match after beating the Cavaliers (6-6). Winners for HB were Keira Swart (8-1) and Anuhya Chilakapati (8-3) won their singles matches, and then teamed up to win 8-2 in doubles. Alvirne hosts Portsmouth on Monday and HB hosts Bow on Tuesday.

PINKERTON 6, NASHUA NORTH 3

The Titans fell to 6-6, splitting singles but getting swept in doubles. Singles winners for North were Ashley Goh (8-2), Sanya Rane (8-6) and Caitlyn Mamos (8-1).

North has two matches left, at Derryfield Monday and home vs. Bedford next Wednesday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, BISHOP GUERTIN 0

The Cavaliers (8-2) sweep the Cardinals (2-9) 25-14, 25-21, 25-13. HB was led by Kaleb Popham (five kills), Connor Moquin (two aces), Martin Bergeron (ace) and Jordan Beck (ace). Trent Rider led BG with four kills, six digs and a block. HB visits Mascenic and BG visits Souhegan on Monday.

BOYS & GIRLS TRACK

NORTH BOYS THIRD, GIRLS FIFTH IN MERRIMACK INVITATIONAL

In the boys race, the Titans totaled 55 points, behind meet winner Pinkerton (69) and second place Londonderry (65).

Nashua South was seventh (38) and Souhegan ninth (30), Alvirne 10th (28) and host Merrimack 11th.

Local winners included: Nashua North’s Jack Sullivan in the long jump (20-2.5) and Toby Brown, Jr. in the shot put 48-4); Nashua South’s Rory Olsen in the 300 hurdles (40.11) and Sami Witta in the high jump (6-4), plus Merrimack’s Sam Epstein in the pole vault (14-0), Souhegan’s Wil Jaques in the discus (156-6) and javelin (161-0).

In the girls meet, North was fifth with 47 points and South took sixth with 39. Alvirne (seventh, 34) and Merrimack (ninth, 20) rounded out the locals.

Local winners included: Nashua South’s Soraya Ross in the 100 and 200 meters (12.42 and 25.71) and she also aided the winning 4×100 relay (49.74) with Iyana Braswell, Emily Ostrowski and Mia Cruz plus North’s Dantia Braccio in the 800 (2:21.13).
