NASHUA – There are weeks when the schedule is softer than ice cream at room temperature.

And then weeks when it’s hard as ice.

That’s what this week was like for the Nashua High School boys lacrosse team. The Panthers managed to beat Division II contender Timberlane, but fell on the wrong side of the ledger to the two most powerful teams in their own Division I, Exeter a few days ago and Bishop Guertin on Thursday by a 13-4 count at Stellos Stadium.

Still, it’s a week that likely helped the Panthers, still 10-3 after getting through the gauntlet.

“We learned the importance of having depth,” South coach Bill Monsen said. “Being on the road back to back vs. Timberlane (7-5 win) and Exeter (19-6 loss) was tough; we had no legs vs. Exeter. But I liked the fact we didn’t stop playing today, we kept fighting.”

The Cards jumped out to an 8-0 lead after one quarter,11-0 at the half and that was basically it as the Divsion I favorite Cards improved to 11-1 before a tough out of state game against Rhode Island power LaSalle at Stellos at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Aiden Laurendeau had three goals to lead BG, followed by a pair each by Brady Dumont and Connor Guibord. Other BG goal scorers were Quinn Cepiel, Connor Bouvier, Caleb Yeung, Carter Jozokos, Jacob Caron and Michael Matuszewski.

South got two goals from Connor Rowsell, plus single goals by Nate Campbell and Griffin Johnson. Ethan Johnson had 13 saves in the Panther net.

BG dominated on first-half faceoffs as expected with J.J. Murphy.

“We were very focused today; it’s South, it’s a rivalry game,” Cards coach Chris Cameron said, noting this was a better effort than the team’s 15-7 win earlier this week at Bedford. “We were very sharp in that first half. … They got our best shot. We challenged our guys.”

And they responded. So did the Panthers, which pleased Monsen despite the outcome.

“You see kids like Connor leading from the front the whole time,” Monsen said. “He’s just a beast.”

And that’s what South wants to be come playoff time, because the Panthers know the Cards and Blue Hawks will be as well.
