HS Roundup: BG lax edges B.C. High, Campbell now 8-0

Thursdays are usually a light night in local high school sports but not yesterday, as Wednesday’s rain combined with regular schedule made it an incredibly busy day, beginning with Bishop Guertin’s big boys lacrosse win over out-of-state foe B.C. High, and Campbell’s road win over Hopkinton. Not to mention the Souhegan girls lax triumph over Pinkerton.

Here’s a look:

BOYS LACROSSE

BISHOP GUERTIN 11, BC HIGH (MA) 10

The Cardinals (9-1) squeezed by the Massachusetts powerhouse and came home with a win as Tim Kiely (assist) scored two straight goals to break a 9-9 tie, finishing with four goals and an assist, while Quinn Cepiel scored three to help lead the offensive unit.

Connor Guibord (assist) netted two goals with Aiden Laurendeau (assist) and Kevin Broderick scoring one apiece. Brady Dumont and Connor Bouvier added a pair of assists. Zach Connerty had 15 saves between the pipes and Liam O’Keefe added one.

BG visits Bedford on Monday.

MILFORD 16, INTER-LAKES 4

Cade Bouchard notched a hat trick and three assists to lead the Spartans (2-4) to their second straight win. Logan Barnhill (three goals, assist), Chuck Urda (two goals, assist), Andrew Herbert (two goals), Braydon Atwood (two goals), Harris Jones (goal, three assists), Hugh Palmer (goal, assist), Ryan Arseneau (goal, assist) and Alex Johnson (goal) paced the offense.

James Brew made five saves in net. Justin Desmarais and Luca DeRosa were excellent of defense causing turnovers.

Milford travels to Kearsarge on Friday.

CAMPBELL 15, HOPKINTON 12

The visiting Cougars remained unbeaten (8-0) as a major contender in Division III, handing the Hawks (4-1) their first loss.

Andrew Willnus and Jack Noury each had five goals and an assist to lead the way, while Brendan Boschi added two goals and four assists.

Ryan Guerrette had 15 saves for the Cougars, who head to Laconia for another big road test on Monday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

SOUHEGAN 6, PINKERTON 5

The Sabers (6-3) end the Astros six game winning streak with a close win. Mackenzie Cretsinger (three draw controls, two groundballs) and Elle Stevenson (assist, three groundballs) each had a pair of goals.

Emma Kennedy and Lyla Kimball (three groundballs) added one goal each. Shannon Hargreaves made nine saves and Natalie Heimarck had two draw controls and two groundballs. Souhegan hosts Concord on Tuesday.

BASEBALL

LONDONDERRY 8, NASHUA NORTH 1

The Titans (6-4) dropped their second in a row on Thursday. Derek Finlay, Brady Mason and Colin Holbrook had hits in the loss.

North hosts Nashua South tonight at Holman Stadium.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 6, HANOVER 2

The Cavaliers (7-0) streak continues with a road win against Hanover. Charlie Hale earned the win pitching seven innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out eight. Alex Razzaboni and Torin White had multiple hits for the locals. HB hosts Laconia on Friday.

JOHN STARK 10, MILFORD 5

The Spartans (0-7) are still searching for their first win after a home loss to John Stark. Sean Daykin, Logan Howard and Michael Lima each had RBIs in the seventh inning. Lima and Nick Conforti had multiple hits in the game. Milford visits St. Thomas today.

SOUTH-SPAULDING NOW NEXT THURSDAY

The Panthers were slated to visit Spaulding yesterday but there was an umpire issue and the game has been rescheduled to next Thursday, May 12. That gives South four games next week.

SOFTBALL

SPAULDING 12, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Panthers record drops to 1-7 after a shutout loss. South visits Nashua North on Monday.

MERRIMACK 6, BEDFORD 4

Ashlyn Cassetty and Hayden Stuart had multiple hits at the plate in the Tomahawks (7-2) close win against the Bulldogs. Hannah Stone had a double and Kaeley Smith stole two bases.

Lily Dionne got the win pitching three innings and giving up four hits, while Avery Hui picked up the save giving up four hits in four innings.

Merrimack visits Bishop Guertin today.

BOYS TENNIS

BISHOP GUERTIN 7, CONCORD 2

The Cardinals (7-2) tally their third straight win. Singles winners were Dean Liakos (8-1), Gavin Bombara (8-5), Aditya Prasad (8-4), Sean Cairns (8-3) and Will Moynihan (8-3). Liakos/Bombara (8-0) and Ryan Wallat/Prasad (8-5) won in doubles. BG visits Merrimack today.

NASHUA NORTH 5, LONDONDERRY 4

The Titans moved to 4-3 by outlasting the Lancers in a hard-fought, three-and-a-half hour match with Jason Pecorarro and Shikhar Gupta accounting for three of the five North points. It was North’s first match in over two weeks but the Titans now face rival Nashua South in the Battle of the Bridge Saturday at 9 a.m.

DERRYFIELD 5, ALVIRNE 4

The Broncos (3-7) dropped their third straight matchup. Winners were Peyton Meuse (8-0), Ashton Meuse (8-2), Caleb Lambert (7-1) and the team of Meuse/Meuse (8-1).

Alvirne visits Exeter on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 8, KINGSWOOD 1

The Cavaliers (2-5) won their second match of the season on Thursday afternoon. Bryson Giersch (8-5), William Critchfield (9-7), Simar Sidhu (8-0), Finn Brown (8-5) and Elliott Troddyn (8-2) won in singles competition. Giersch/Critchfield, Jason Babcock/Hayden Smith (8-2) and Sidhu/Troddyn won in doubles. HB hosts Windham today..

CONVAL 7, SOUHEGAN 2

Joshua Goddard (8-5) and Andrew Rosse (8-6) won their matches in the Sabers (5-2) loss. Souhegan hosts Coe-Brown today.

GIRLS TENNIS

NASHUA NORTH 9, LONDONDERRY 0

The Titans record sits at 4-3 after their shutout of the Lancers on Thursday.

North winners included Ashley Goh, Andrea Milani, Mary Pappas, Sanya Rena, Caitlyn Mamos and Claire Desrosiers. The doubles teams of Goh/Milani, Rena/Mamos and Pappas/Desrosiers also won.

North hosts Nashua South in the Battle of the Bridge at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

MANCHESTER CENTRAL 7, MERRIMACK 2

Shu Grosso (8-1) won her singles matchup and the team of Grosso/Emily Winefield (4-0) won in doubles. Merrimack (3-6) visits Bishop Guertin today.

GIRLS TRACK

NASHUA SOUTH THIRD, NORTH FIFTH IN CLIPPER RELAYS

The Panthers totaled 47.97 points, behind second place Pinkerton (64.93) and meet winner Coe-Brown (74.93) in Portsmouth, which was fourth (43.91), ahead of North (31.96).

Milford was eighth (23.96) whileBishop Guertin was 10th (12.96).

South took the 4×100 relay behind Iyana Braswell, Emily Ostrowski, Mia Cruz and Soraya Ross (49.75)

In individual field events, North’s Olivia Mazerolle was second in the high jump, ahead of third place Madison Arpin.

Milford’s Sarah Sawyer was second in the long jump. South’s Emily Ostrowski was second in the triple jump.

North’s Natalie Burgess won the shot put at 35 feet, while Titan Madelyn Novak won the javelin (110-10), ahead of BG’s Marisa Parshley (101-5).

BOYS TRACK

NORTH THIRD, MILFORD FIFTH AT CLIPPER RELAYS

The Titans were third (47.94 points) behind winner Coe-Brown (62.95) and second place Pinkerton (48.98). Host Portsmouth was fourth (44.97) while Milford was fifth (43.95).

Merrimack took seventh (21.94) while Nashua South was 12th (12.98) and BG 15th (7.98).

Local winners came in the field events, with South’s Sami Witta taking the high jump (5-10), Merrimack’s Sam Epstein first in the pole vault (14-0), North’s Jack Sullivan in the long jump (19-7.25) and triple jump (41-5.25), Milford’s Caden Zalenski in the shot put (50-6.25) and discus (148-4).
