HS Roundup: Merrimack bounces back; another rout for BG

After a tough four-plus innings against Nashua North on Tuesday, Merrimack High School baseball coach Mike Dudash gathered his players in the dugout as the rain came down.

Whatever he told them, worked, as the Tomahawks picked up their third win with a blowout of Trinity on Wednesday in much drier weather.

In other games, the BG girls lacrosse team continued its winning ways, as did the Merrimack softball team.

Here’s a look at a Vacation Week Wednesday:

BASEBALL

MERRIMACK 15,TRINITY 5

The Tomahawks hold down the fort with a blow-out victory over Trinity. Ryan Mainey pitched five innings allowing seven hits, five runs and striking out six in his first varsity start.

Leading the way on offense were Owen Medlock (two hits, two runs), Eliot Medlock (two hits, three runs, RBI), Dylan Brander (hit, three runs, three RBIs), Aidan Ponder (two hits, three runs, two RBIs), Garron Brown (two hits, two runs, three RBIs), Evan Roy (hit, run, two RBIs) and Mainey (run, two RBIs). Merrimack visits Timberlane on Monday.

EXETER 1, ALVIRNE 0

The Broncos (0-8) were outlasted in a pitching duel against the Blue Hawks. Alex Blais pitched four innings allowing one hit, one run and striking out two and Brady Simard pitched two innings giving up one hit and striking out two. Simard, Jake Dufour, Logan Casey and Austin Ouellette had one hit each. Alvirne visits Nashua North on Friday.

WINNACUNNET 5, BISHOP GUERTIN 1

The visiting Cards got an RBI single by Dante Nieto, while Evan Kaplo and Luke Anderson also had hits.

Now 5-3, the Cards are at Exeter on Friday.

SOFTBALL

WINNACUNNET 2, BISHOP GUERTIN 0

The Cardinals lose a close to the Warriors. Bailey Doyle pitched all seven innings giving up eight hits and striking out five. Sophie Bilodeau had two hits including a double for the locals. BG hosts Exeter on Friday.

EXETER 22, ALVIRNE 1

The Broncos lose big to a stout Blue Hawks squad dropping their record to 3-4. Alvirne hosts Nashua North on Friday.

MERRIMACK 18, MANCHESTER WEST-TRINITY 3

The Tomahawks (6-1) come away with another dominant victory. Hannah Stone hit a three home run and Morgan Goodspeed smacked a solo home run to lead the offense. Hayden Stuart, Lilly Dionne, Ashlyn Cassetty and Natalia Gonzalez had multiple hits. Avery Hui pitched six innings allowing six hits, three runs and striking out four. Hui also added four hits to offensive unit. Merrimack hosts Timberlane on Monday.

SOUHEGAN 7, KINGSWOOD 4

The Sabers followed up their big win over St. Thomas Monday with another to improve to 7-1. Among the highlights: Colin Burke with four strikeouts on the mound over 6.2 innings, Kyan Bagshaw with a couple of hits and an RBI, and two run scored on passed ball. Nolan Colby (2 for 3, RBI) had a couple of steals.

Wil Jacques, Colin Burke, Bandon Dufour and Dylan Dufour each had a hit.

The Sabers visit Bedford Friday for a 10 a.m. game.

BOYS LACROSSE

SALEM 14, NASHUA NORTH 1

The Titans (0-7) woes continue when they made a visit to the Blue Devils Wednesday afternoon. Jack Peters scored the lone goal and Devyn Lavoie made five saves. North visits Exeter on Friday.

BEDFORD 7, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3

The Cavaliers (1-5) were on the losing end of the stick for the fifth straight time when they face the Bulldogs. Connor Cook scored three goals, while John Paul Torgersen and Andrew Torgersen collected one assist apiece. Tucker Luter made eight saves between the pipes. HB hosts Merrimack on Friday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

BISHOP GUERTIN 19, DOVER 1

The Cardinals (5-0-1) get their eighth straight win when they defeated Dover. Anna Campel (assist) and Tess Prunier each secured a hat trick. Rylee Bouvier (assist), Katie Campel, Kyra O’Connell and Lauren Redfern tallied two goals apiece. Mikhaila Mendell, Arianna Kouchalakas, Kamryn Schmitt, Nat Coutu (three assists) and Abbey Cannon (assist) closed out the scoring with one goal each.

Steph Reap had two assists with Sophia Alton and Deb Moyer had one assist each. Goalies Maddy Eder Linell and Makenna Reekie each had one save. BG hosts Moses Brown on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Stellos Stadium.

SALEM 13, NASHUA NORTH 3

The Titans (2-6) lose their fourth straight contest on Wednesday against the Blue Devils. Summer St. Pierre tallied two goals and an assist, Reagan Belanger scored a goal and Molly Ducharme had eight draw controls. Elliott Brown made 14 saves in net.

North hosts Exeter on Friday.
