HS Roundup: Winning day for local softball, baseball, lax

Most local teams on Thursday were able to beat the rain – and the opposition.

Guertin softball and baseball came out on top, while Nashua North girls lacrosse captured its first win. Most of the area’s girls lacrosse teams had their offense working. Here’s a look:

SOFTBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 7, WINDHAM 4

Junior Bailey Doyle did double duty: First, she went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs as the Cards moved to 2-1 on the season. Second, Doyle also pitched a complete game giving up six hits and striking out five batters.

The game was tied 2-2 going into the fifth when senior Maddy Bowen singled to bring in the go-ahead run. Senior Torey Hart and freshman Sophie Bilodeau both had two hits and two runs each in the contest.

CAMPBELL 15, RAYMOND 0

Theresa Ivas got the win for the Cougars in the circle, striking out 11. Campbell pounded out 13 hits to move to 3-0.

Campbell will play a fourth game for the week, visiting Somersworth on Friday.

BASEBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 13, WINDHAM 3

The Cardinals enjoyed their Holman Stadium opener as Sam Franco picked up his first varsity win going three innings of one-hit, scoreless relief with three strikeouts.

BG was led offensively by Evan Kaplo (2 for 5, double, run, three RBIs), Max Riordan (2 for 4, run, RBI), Adam Wetherbee (1for 4, two runs, two RBIs) and Ryan Haskell (2 for 3, run, RBI). Now 2-0, BG faces Bedford on Monday at Holman Stadium at 4 p.m.

GIRLS LACROSSE

BISHOP GUERTIN 14, CHELMSFORD (Mass.) 1

The Cardinals used their fast-paced attack to jump out to a 10-0 first half lead and cruised, now 2-0 on the season.

Rylee Bouvier had five goals and two assists, while Nat Coutu added four goals. Scoring single goals were Anna Campel, Katie Campel, Lauren Redfern, Deb Moyer, Steph Reap and Tess Prunier, who also had an assist. Arianna Kouchalakas added an assist.

Guertin is on the road to Massachusetts again on Monday, visiting Central Catholic of Lawrence.

NASHUA SOUTH 17, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL-WEST 1

Nine players from South all got in the scoring column as the visiting Panthers improved to 2-0.

Morgan Uzdanovich led South with four goals, followed by Ella Benzekri (three goals, three draw controls) , Kaitlyn West (three goals), Maddy Matylewski (three goals, 1 assist), Bella Walsh (two goals, assist), Kylie Dawe (one goal, assist), Maren Lowell (one goal, two assists, three draw controls), Karina O’Donnell (five assists, three draw controls) and Maizie Barker (two assists).

Keira Walsh and Audrey Mullaney (one save each), split time in net for South, which hosts Salem on Saturday.

NASHUA NORTH 13, MANCHESTER CENTRAL 9

The host Titans picked up their first win (1-2) thanks to seven Keira Sice goals and two goals, three goals and two assists by Summer St. Pierre, plus two assists and six draw controls by Molly Ducharme.

Also helping out were Reagan Belanger (two goals, assist), Kay Crear and Rachel Gauthier (an assist each).

Defensively, Jessica Pech-Buzek and Rachel Gauthier led the way.

North will visit Manchester Memorial-West on Monday.

KENNETT 14, ALVIRNE 6

Down 10-2 at the half, the Broncos (0-2)

stayed in the game thanks the defense of Jordan Sweeney and Abigale St. Laurent.

Offensively, Maddy Nicolosi and Halle Miller had two goals each, with Miller added an assist. Elsa Ferullo added a goal.

Broncos goalie Alexa Kruger had 12 saves. The Broncos are at Hollis Brookline on Monday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 16, KINGSWOOD 4

Alyssa Hill continued her early season scoring with five goals and three assists to pace the 2-0 visiting Cavaliers, but she had plenty of help.

Also contributing were Abbie Ogren (three goals, two asssists), Bella Haytayan (two goals, two assists), Sabrina Hill (two goals, assist), McKenna McGuire (two goals), Kaitlyn Castriotta (goal), Samantha Smith (goal, assist), Juliet Ogren (two assists), and Teagan Arbogast (assist).

Backup freshman goalie Laurel Ciofrone got the start and came through with five big saves.

HB hosts Alvirne on Monday.

BOYS LACROSSE

NASHUA SOUTH 15, SALEM 4

The Panthers got four goals from Parker Fleury and three goals and two assists each from Griffin Johnson and Nate Campbell to move to 2-0 on the young season.

Michael Rutstein had two goals while Connor Rowsell, Luke Lowell and Rhett Medlling had a goal apiece. Broden Landsteiner had two assists as well.

Ethan Johnson (nine saves) and Colin Sewade (one save) shared time in goal. Matt Doyle had four goals for Salem.

South hosts Londonderry on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

BISHOP GUERTIN 19, CONCORD 5

The Cardinals (3-0) keep rolling, as they’ve scored a total of 60 goals so far.

Leading the way was Quinn Cepiel with six goals while Aiden Laurendeau had a hat trick. Connor Guibord, Brady Dumont, and Tim Kiely had two each while single tallies were by Connor Bouvier, Carter Jozokos, Kevin Broderick and Jacob Caron.

The competition goes up a few notches on Tuesday when BG hosts Xaverian Brothers at Stellos Stadium at 6 p.m.

GIRLS TENNIS

SOUTH, BG SUSPENDED

Thursday’s match with Bishop Guertin and the Panthers at BG was suspended by rain, with the Cardinals up 3-2 in singles and the last singles match to be played in a tiebreaker.

The schools are hoping to resume the match sometime next week.
