It wasn’t exactly a nice spring day on Wednesday, but the rainy weather forecasted never made it too far north, enabling some local high school tennis to be played between Nashua North and Merrimack.

And that was good news for the Titans. Here’s why:

GIRLS TENNIS

NASHUA NORTH 5, MERRIMACK 4

After taking four of six singles, the Titans had to squeak out the win with the No. 3 doubles team of Claire Desrosiers and Mary Pappas beating the Tomahawks’ Jordan and Sarah Zebuhr 8-0.

North’s other victories were by Pappas at No. 3 (8-0), Sanya Raine at No. 4 (8-1), Caitlyn Mamos at No.5 (8-1) and Issabella Davidson at No. 6 (8-4).

The Tomahawks got their usual win by No. 1 singles player Shu Grosso, 8-0 over North’s Ashley Goh. Katie Costa also won 8-2 at No. 2 over North’s Andrea Milani.

But after the Titans took the next four singles matches, the ‘Hawks made it close with wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles, with Grosso/Emily Winefied (8-0) and Costa/Jessica Harden doing the job.

North is now 2-0 while Merrimack fell to 0-2. The Titans host Hanover next Wednesday while the Tomahawks are back at it on Friday, hosting Spaulding.

HB-MILFORD PPD
