Spring has sprung, but it really becomes official today when high school spring sports teams around the area start practices.

That means there will be tryouts and practices for boys and girls tennis, baseball, softball, boys and girls lacrosse, boys volleyball and boys and girls outdoor track.

The weather has certainly cooperated, as the snow has basically all melted and while temperatures may get into the 40s here and there, outdoor practices should be the norm depending on field conditions.

“We had a soaking rain the other day so we’ll give our field one more day,” Nashua High School South baseball coach James Gaj said Sunday.

But Gaj team won’t be inside, but rather at Stellos Stadium. It’s not the first time baseball and softball teams have used Stellos early in the season.

“I’d rather do that than be inside for two weeks,” Gaj said. “We got a real good break with the weather this year. We’re cleared to use the field, but we have Stellos, so we’ll use that and get on our field on Tuesday.”

North baseball and softball are scheduled to use their own fields today, while boys and girls lacrosse will practice at Stellos in the late afternoon. The South lacrosse teams are using the fields at the school, according to information tweeted by the Nashua athletic department. Most area tennis teams should have no problem using their courts either on Monday or Tuesday.

At Bishop Guertin, according to the athletics calendar baseball and softball will begin indoors, but girls lacrosse is scheduled to be at Stellos in the early evening.

North has a new softball coach, Taylor Rowsell, and Dakota Bilodeau takes over Alvirne softball. Two schools will have new baseball coaches, Chris Metz at Souhegan and James Marron at Campbell, the latter taking the former’s spot.

Linda Haytayan takes over girls lacrosse at Hollis Brookline. Haytayan was an assistant at Souhegan last year but she was the first ever girls lacrosse coach at the unified Nashua High School back in the 1990s. Nick Lambros is the new boys lacrosse coach at Souhegan.

The seasons for most sports will get underway the week of April 11, but some outdoor track and most tennis teams will start the week of April 4.
