Puck Powers: Concord, St. Thomas, Hanover win NHIAA titles

There was an air of familiarity as three of the four NHIAA ice hockey championships were decided on Saturday at SNHU’s Arena.

Concord successfully defended its Division I boys title, St. Thomas of Dover, which won the title outright in 2019 and shared it in 2020, captured it again in Divsion II boys. And Hanover, which eliminated Bishop Guertin the other night in the semis, captured its 12th girls title and first since 2018.

Later today at 5:30 p.m., the Division III boys title will be decided with Berlin-Gorham taking on Belmont-Gilford at Plymouth State University, the game rescheduled and moved due to the snowy weather in northern New Hampshire.

Here’s a look:

DIVISON I BOYS

CONCORD 3, BEDFORD 0

The No. 1 Crimson Tide got goals by Brooks Craigue and Colin Nelson plus a goal and two assists by Cam McGonigle to stay in control throughout, finishing up at 19-0-2 while the Bulldogs, who eliminated Bishop Guertin in the quarterfinals a week ago, finished at 17-3-1.

DIVISION II BOYS

ST. THOMAS 7, PORTSMOUTH-NEWMARKET 1

Thetop-seeded Saints spotted No. 3 P-N an early 1-0 lead and then dominated the rest of the way with goals by Brendan Chrisom, Colin Chrisom, Gage Spagna, Tanner Petalas, Lincoln Stone, Finn Connor and Weston Trahan.

They finished 20-0 with their third title in four years.

DIVISION I GIRLS

HANOVER 5, ST.THOMAS-WINNACUNNET-DOVER 0

The No. 3 Bears held on to a 1-0 lead after two periods with a goal by Rachel Rockmore, then broke things open in the third period goals by Maeve Lee, Mackenzie Liu and Julia Lawe.

The Bears ended the season at 17-4. It’s the second straight title game loss for STAWD (14-7).
