HS Roundup: Merrimack girl swimmers second, BG boys fourth

The Bedford Bulldogs, as expected, dominated the Division I NHIAA Boys and Girls swimming championships in Salem on Sunday.

But it was still a super day for the Merrimack High School girls, who finished second to the Bulldogs.

Bedford had a staggering 307.5 points, but the Tomahawks had 184 points, well ahead of third place Exeter (148) and fourth place Dover (133.5).

Bishop Guertin was the next local in eighth (70), five points ahead of ninth place Nashua South (65). Alvirne was 14th and Nashua North 17th.

In the boys race, it was a little closer as the Bulldogs totaled 242 points to Dover’s 207. Bishop Guertin was the top local with 118 points. Alvirne was 11th, North 13th and South 15th.

In the girls event, Merrimack sophomore Meredith Lubelczy captured the 200 yard IM in 2:12.59 to highlight the ‘Hawks big day. She was third in the 50 free, third in the 100 breast and fifth in the 100 back.

The Hawks’ Josey Stevens was fourth in the 200 IM, fourth in the 100 breast, Sara Conquest third in the 100 fly, and Allie Marvel was fourth in the 500 free.

Merrimack’s 200 free relay took second while it’s 200 medley relay team was third and 400 yard relay group fifth.

Bishop Guertin’s Moira Thompson was fourth in diving, while the Cards’ Morgan Daudier was fifth in the 100 fly and Kylie Donoghue fifth in the 100 breast.

Other highlights locally: Nashua South’s Kaitlyn Birr was second in diving (277.60), just ahead of teammate and last year’s champion, Sue Mai White (275.10).

In the boys meet, BG came away with a state champion in Eamon Griffin, who captured the 200 yard IM in 1:58.28 and was second in the 100 breast.

Brennden Dion was fourth in the 50 free, and the Cards’ Garrett Konieczny was fifth in the 100 breast.

BG’s 200 medley relay team was second, and Guertin was third in the 400 free relay.

Nashua South’s Owen White was third in the 200 IM and third in the 100 free.

BOWLING

HB DOES WELL

The Hollis Brookline bowling team held its own this past weekend in a match against the top three teams in the state: Goffstown, Stevens and Keene.

Cassidy Krivis (148, 111), Joe Krivis (142, 143), Rheanna Farquarson (157, 117), and Travis LaFontaine bowled well. The Cavs as a team put up some of their highest scores in baker play and beat Keene in a baker match.

Jackson Kolb, Adriana Rosen and Kathleen Wilkish bowled well for the JVs.

DIVISON I SEMIS BOYS HOOP SITE NAMED

An hour or so after the Nashua High School North boys basketball team eliminated Exeter 57-54 in a thrilling quarterfinal at Titans Gym, the wheels were set in motion for Exeter to host the Division I semifinals on Wednesday.

Sunday it became official, as North will take on Goffstown at 5:30 at Exeter, and Pinkerton will face Trinity.

The winners will meet at UNH next Sunday at 10 a.m.in the title game.

Exeter will also serve as hosts of the Divison I girls basketball semis on Tuesday. Bedford and Portsmouth will square off at 6 and Bishop Guertin and Pinkerton play at 8 p.m.
