HS Roundup: Big wins for North, South, Souhegan hoop

If you wanted thrills and chills, Wednesday was your night.

The Nashua High School North and South boys basketball teams both picked up overtime wins at home, while Souhegan recovered nicely from suffering its first loss on Monday to beating Pelham on the road in a battle of Division II beheamoths.

And in girls hoop, don’t look now but Milford, which had gone winless the last couple of years, is now 9-6. And once again North suffered a heartbreaking loss.

Bad 3-2 news for local hockey teams and there’s some wrestling to check out, too.

Here’s where the local roundup ride starts:

BOYS BASKETBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 57,

PORTSMOUTH 52 (OT)

Josh Caruso’s 25 point performance helped the Panthers (8-7) edge out the Clippers in overtime. Rhett Medling added 12 points in the win. South visits Bedford on Monday.

NASHUA NORTH 64,

WINNACUNNET 61 (OT)

The Titans (11-3) outlasted the Warriors in overtime AS Parth Miglani led the way with 18 points, Trevor Labrecque scored 15, Thomas Laurendi and Jayden Montgomery each had 10 and Jack Peters added nine.

Derek Finlay knocked down two huge free throws with four seconds left. North is at Manchester Memorial tonight.

SOUHEGAN 58,

PELHAM 42

The visiting Sabers (13-1), down 22-19 at halftime, bounced back well to hand the Pythons their first loss of the season after a tough loss at home to Lebanon on Monday.

John McBride led the offense with 17 points, Matt Canavan and Nolan Colby tallied 10 apiece. The locals were down 22-19 at halftime.

Souhegan hosts Pembroke on Friday.

MANCHESTER WEST 68,

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 66

The Cavs (1-14) lost their fifth straight game in a thriller against West, where the locals came back from an 11-point deficit.

HB had five players in double figures led by Andrew Eckman (16 points), Kaleb Popham (13 points), John Kotelly (13 points), Jayce Cora (12 points) and Joe Mahoney (12 points). HB visits John Stark on Friday.

MILFORD 62,

JOHN STARK 44

The Spartans (5-10) picked up a big win against the Generals. Bernard Glusac led the attack with 19 points and Ryon Constable scored 15.

Milford hosts Merrimack Valley on Friday.

CAMPBELL 59

RAYMOND 38

The Cougars pick up a home win off of Brody Mills’ 20 point outburst. Dylan Rice added 16 points, Colton Martel had 10 and Jack Noury had nine. Campbell hosts Conant on Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 78,

MANCHESTER CENTRAL 34

The Cardinals (12-2) enjoyed decisive win on the road as Olivia Murray led all scorers with 14 points. Molly Smith and Brooke Muller each scored 11 points and Hannah Lynch added 10.

BG visits Dracut (Mass.) on Monday. The Cards’ scheduled game Saturday at home vs. Cicero North Syracuse (N.Y.) was moved to Saturday, Feb. 5.

PORTSMOUTH 65,

NASHUA SOUTH 30

The Panthers were ousted by the Clippers dropping their record to 1-12. Maizie Barker and Lizzie Derusha scored eight points each.

South hosts Winnacunnet on Friday.

WINNACUNNET 30,

NASHUA NORTH 29

The Titans (2-12) fall to the Warriors after they hit a game winning three-pointer on the last possession.

Natalie Burgess collected 10 points, Olivia Mazerolle and Aiden Walker scored eight apiece. North hosts Spaulding on Friday.

BEDFORD 50,

MERRIMACK 44

The Tomahawks sit at 7-7 after a tough battle with the Bulldogs. Shannon Sadwhani led the team with 18 points and Kaylee Bormuth had 10.

Merrimack hosts Salem on Friday.

MILFORD 62,

JOHN STARK 47

Lulu Maguire had the hot hand scoring 22 points including four three-pointers in the Spartans (9-6) win.

Bailey Johnson tallied 17 points and Avery Fuller collected 12. Kate Hansen, Addie Hopkins and Ellianna Nassy led the defensive unit.

Milford hosts Lebanon on Thursday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 65,

MANCHESTER WEST 30

The Cavs improved to 9-4 after another big win on the road as Elisabeth Stapelfeld led all scorers with 21 points.

Cheyenne Colbert had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Daniella Allanach and Maggie Crooks had eight and six points respectively.

HB hosts Timberlane on Saturday.

PELHAM 76,

SOUHEGAN 43

The Sabers (4-10) drop their fourth in a row after falling to the Pythons. Caitlin Cooper had a team high 13 points, Kate Canavan had 11 and Hadley Corcoran added nine.

Souhegan visits Pembroke on Friday.

BOYS HOCKEY

TRINITY 3,

NASHUA NORTH-SOUHEGAN 2

North-Souhegan (1-9) loses their fifth straight game after a battle with Trinity. Chase McBride and Jacob Landry (assist) each scored a goal. North-Souhegan hosts Nashua South-Pelham on Saturday.

GOFFSTOWN 3,

MERRIMACK 2

The Tomahawks fall to an even 4-4 record after their Wednesday night loss. Eliot Medlock and Kyle Dunn each found the back of the net. Medlock and Conor Dunn tallied one assist each.

Merrimack visits Goffstown on Saturday.

WRESTLING

MERRIMACK 37,

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 36

The Tomahawks narrowly got by the Cavs as winners for Merrimack included Evan Torres at 126 in a 14-2 decision, Mitchell Krupp at 138 by fall, Anthony Lessmerises at 182 in a 15-12 decision and Connor Williams at 285 by fall. Winners for Hollis Brookline were Caden Bruseo at 113 by fall, Hunter Crea at 132 in a 16-3 decision, Robinson McAdams at 145 by fall, Troy Moscatelli at 152 in 19-2 TF, Luke Wang at 160 by fall, Ethan Bender at 170 in an 8-7 decision.
