HS Roundup: Cards top ‘Hawks; Sabers stay unbeaten

Don’t look now, but the Bishop Guertin High School boys basketball team is on a roll. Not to be outdone, so are the Souhegan Sabers.

The Cards haven’t lost since they blew a big halftime lead at Keene on Jan. 5 as they beat Merrimack on Friday night. The Sabers, meanwhile, haven’t lost all season, topping Kennett.

BOYS BASKETBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 48,

MERRIMACK 37

The Cardinals (10-3) win their sixth straight game, while the Tomahawks (3-10) dropped their fourth consecutive contest.

Matt Santosuosso heated up for 19 points, Tyler Mackey scored nine and Luke Anderson had seven for BG. Merrimack’s Jack Tarleton was games highest scorer with 20.

BG visits Dover and Merrimack visits Londonderry on Monday.

SOUHEGAN 73,

KENNETT 24

The Sabers (12-0) stayed perfect in dominant fashion as Nick Nowack led the offensive unit with 13 points, John McBride scored 11 with Keegan Burke and Joe Bernasconi tallying 10 each.

Souhegan hosts Lebanon on Monday.

MILFORD 69,

JOHN STARK 45

The Spartans jumped out to a 23-5 lead after the first quarter and took care of business the rest of the way against a winless John Stark team. Ryon Constable had a great performance tallying 32 points and Caden Zalenski had 12.

BISHOP BRADY 62,

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 46

Bishop Brady outscored Hollis-Brookline 19-7 in the third quarter to break open a three-point halftime game and cruise in the final frame.

Kaleb Popham led HBHS with 11 points and five rebounds, while Andrew Eckman and Joe Mahoney each scored eight points for the 1-12 Cavaliers, who travel to Sanborn on Monday night.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

MILFORD 40,

TIMBERLANE 34

Trailing 29-28 entering the fourth quarter, the visiting Spartans (7-6) rallied to outscore the Owls 12-5 in the final stanza. Lulu Maguire scored 15 points to lead Milford, connecting on four 3-pointers.

Avery Fuller added 11 and Ellianna Nassy chipped in with four points, including two clutch free throws in the final minute to seal the win. Addie Hopkins, Bailey Johnson and Kate Hansen were strong off the boards the entire night. Milford visits Souhegan on Saturday.

KENNETT 62,

SOUHEGAN 27

Caitlin Cooper scored 15 points in the Sabers loss Friday night. Hadley Cocoran collected five points. Souhegan hosts Milford on Saturday.
