HS Roundup: Saber-Titans win first; South boys on top in OT

The drought is over.

The Nashua High School North-Souhegan hockey team captured its first win of the season, a one-goal affair Monday at Nashua’s Conway Arena.

It wasn’t a good day for Windham boys teams in Gate City as the Nashua South boys basketball squad snapped a two-game skid with an overtime win over the Jaguars. However, the South girls’ tough luck continued as Windham did get a win.

And don’t forget the Souhegan Sabers, who are 8-0 after a home win over Coe-Brown. Here are all the details from a busy Monday:

BOYS HOCKEY

NASHUA NORTH-SOUHEGAN 3,

WINDHAM 2

Colin Duckless stood on his head in goal for the 1-4 Saber-Titans, collecting 40 saves. The Titans led 1-0 after one and 3-2 after two and held on.

Will Dodge’s goal at 12:07 of the second period turned out the be the difference, while also scoring unassisted goals for the locals were Chase McBride and Jacob Landry. North also survived nine penalties.

North-Souhegan is at the Manchester Central-West-Memorial co-op squad on Wednesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 75,

WINDHAM 70 (OT)

The Panthers even their record at 5-5 after an overtime victory over the Jaguars. Zac Castonguay scored 15 points, Josh Caruso and Karsten Lemire had 13 points with Rhett Medling added 12. South visits Dover on Wednesday.

MERRIMACK 61,

WINNACUNNET 46

There was no stopping Jack Tarleton Monday night as he netted 30 points for the Tomahawks (3-6) to end their two-game skid.

Kyle Crampton added 10 points and Jackson Rosa had eight. Merrimack hosts Exeter on Wednesday.

SOUHEGAN 69,

COE-BROWN 37

The Sabers stay perfect at 8-0 with a decisive win over Coe-Brown. Nolan Colby led the game with 16 points, Carter Hayes scored 14, Matt Canavan had nine and John McBride collected eight rebounds.

Souhegan’s 22-6 second quarter was key in the win. Souhegan visits ConVal on Thursday.

LEBANON 52,

MILFORD 46

The Spartans cut a 33-17 halftime deficit to nine by the end of the third quarter, but could not complete the comeback bid to suffer their sixth straight (2-6).

Ryon Constable led all scorers with 15 points follwed by Bernard Glusac with 10.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 73,

NASHUA NORTH 24

The Cardinals (7-1) dominate the Titans (1-6) to hand them their sixth straight loss. Catelyn Wheeler led all scorers with 17 points; Maddy Bowen added 10, while Olivia Murray and Molly Smith had nine points each.

North’s Natalie Burgess totaled 11 points.

BG hosts Central Catholic (Lawrence, Mass.) and North hosts Pinkerton on Wednesday.

WINDHAM 54,

NASHUA SOUTH 48

The Panthers fell in yet another close game, dropping their record to 0-8. Maizie Barker had a team high 17 points, Ella Karavanic tallied 15 and Karina O’Donnell added nine. South hosts Dover on Wednesday.

MERRIMACK 58,

WINNACUNNET 32

The Tomahawks (6-3) collected their third straight win as Lexi Best led with 18 points and three steals while Madison McCaffery had 12 points and seven steals.

Kaylee Bormuth added 11 points and eight rebounds while Emma Valluzzi and Kaeley Smith ripped down nine rebounds each. Merrimack visits Exeter on Wednesday.

CAMPBELL 43,

MASCENIC 32

The host Cougars won their second straight as they led for the game’s entirety with a strong defensive effort from Abby Guerette and Bailey Bourque.

On the offensive end, Sophie Overbek led the cougars with 11 points with Alyiva Ashe and Kristina Castellano each adding 10 and eight points respectively. Campbell visits Stevens on Wednesday.

COE-BROWN 54,

SOUHEGAN 53

Kate Canavan tallied 28 points in the Sabers third straight defeat. Caitlin Cooper also had a good performance tallying 15 points. Souhegan hosts Milford on Thursday.
