Tournament fever.

It should be at a high point by later this week as, today, the postseason begins – weather permitting – for some local soccer teams and then will be underway fully by Thursday as girls soccer and volleyball will have gotten into the act.

Four local boys soccer teams are set to begin today, with Nashua North, Alvirne Campbell and Wilton-Lyndeborough all scheduled for preliminary round games.

Also today, the Souhegan girls field hockey team is set to square off against Portsmouth in the Division II semis at 5 p.m. at Exeter’s Bill Ball Stadium.

On Wednesday the Nashua South, Alvirne, Merrimack and Campbell girls soccer teams will play in their respective prelims.

The Milford and Campbell girls volleyball teams begin their tournament play in Division II on Wednesday.

The Nashua North, South, Bishop Guertin and Hollis Brookline girls volleyball teams will be in action in the Division I prelims.

Sitting everything out until later this week will be the boys soccer teams from Nashua South, Hollis Brookline and Milford, as well as the Bishop Guertin, HB and Milford girls soccer teams,

Let’s take at look at who is going where and when:

BOYS SOCCER

DIVISION I

Nashua North (7-9) finished No. 12 and will head on the road to face No. 5 Concord (10-4-2), but note that the game has been moved to the Bank of New Hampshire Stadium behind Laconia High School at 5 p.m., likely the closest field turf facility that could accommodate the Crimson Tide since the heavy rain would have made Concord’s Memorial Field tough going. Concord beat North, but just 1-0 back on Sept. 25.

The winner draws either Manchester Memorial or Portsmouth on Friday.

No. 14 Alvirne (6-9-1) has to travel to face No. 3 Hanover (12-3-1) at 3 p.m. That winner will take on either Londonderry or Pinkerton on Friday. The Broncos and Marauders did not play during the regular season.

Waiting in the wings in Division I will be the top seed, Nashua South (15-0-1). The Panthers will get the winner of Exeter at Windham. Note changes for this group, as the Exeter-Windham game today will now be at Presentation of Mary in Hudson at 4:30.

Neither will be easy for South, as it tied Exeter 1-1 and edged Windham just 4-3. The Panthers quarterfinal will be Friday at 6 p.m. at Stellos Stadium.

“It’s always difficult beating a team twice in the same season,” Panthers coach Tom Bellen said. “We’re confident but cautious. We know we need to play our best to win it all. … There are eight or nine teams that could make a three or four game run to win it.”

DIVISION II

Milford (15-0-1) awaits the winner of No. 10 Kingswood at No. 7 Merrimack Valley, that game set for Friday, but it may not be in Milford as athletic director Marc Maurais on Monday was seeking an alternative site for boys and girls soccer home games as the forecasted rain could do extensive field damage.

The Spartans beat Merrimack Valley 6-0 in their regular season opener and edged Kingswood 3-1 six weeks ago.

Hollis Brookline (No. 4, 12-4) has a turf field so the Cavs will be all set to host a possible all-local quarterfinal, getting the winner of today’s No. 12 Souhegan at No. 5 Coe-Brown prelim, set for 3 p.m. in Northwood. The Sabers lost 2-1 at Coe-Brown earlier this season, while HB beat Souhegan 3-1 and Coe-Brown 2-1 this season.

If HB and Milford win their quarters, they will face off in the semifinals at Stellos Stadium next Tuesday, Nov. 2 at Stellos Stadium.

DIVISION III

As of Monday night, No. 3 Campbell’s home game on its grass field in Litchfield vs. No. 14 Inter-Lakes (6-8-2) was on, set for 3 p.m.

The Cougars finished 13-2-1 and have not lost since Hopkinton beat them 4-3 back on Sept. 16. The winner gets either No. 6 Mascoma Valley or No. 11 Fall Mountain in the quarters on Friday.

DIVISION IV

Wilton-Lyndeborough (10-3-1) is the fifth seed and is slated today to host No. 13 Pittsfield (7-8), which it beat 6-0 back on Sept. 16. The winner gets either Woodsville or Lisbon on Friday.

GIRLS SOCCER

DIVISION I

No. 9 Alvirne (8-5-3) will be at No. 8 Salem (9-6-1) on Wednesday at 4 p.m. (time change), and the winner gets Bishop Guertin in Sunday’s quarterfinals at Stellos Stadium. The Broncos would love to get the 14-1-1 top seeded Cardinals again, as they lost 1-0 on a deflection nearly a month ago.

Alvirne and Salem tied 1-1 during the season. BG beat Salem 4-1 back on Sept. 18.

Nashua South (No. 14, 6-9-1) will visit No. 3 Bedford (13-1-2) on Wednesday at 3 p.m., the winner getting either No. 6 Timberlane or No. 11 Windahm this Sunday. The Panthers fell to the Bulldogs 6-1 on Oct. 2.

DIVISION II

The No. 3 Hollis Brookline Cavaliers (11-4-1) will be off until Sunday, when they’ll face either No. 6 Stevens or No. 11 ConVal in the quarterfinals. The Cavs did not play Stevens but only beat ConVal 1-0 back on Oct. 2.

Meanwhile, No. 4 defending champion Milford will host either No. 5 John Stark or No. 12 Kennett on Sunday. Be sure to check with the school to see where and what time. The Spartans (10-3-3) beat both during the season, 5-1 over Kennett and 4-0 over Stark.

DIVISION III

Campebell finished 6-8-1 to claim the 12th seed and will be at No. 5 Derryfield (10-3-2), who beat Campbell 4-2 back on Sept. 17. The winner gets either No. 4 Gilford or No. 13 Berlin on Sunday.

VOLLEYBALL

DIVISION I

Defending champion Bedford (18-0) is the clear favorite, but the second hottest team is No. 11 Nashua North (10-8) which will be at No. 6 Londonderry (13-5) on Thursday. The Titans fell to the Lancers 3-2 at the end of September, their next-to-last loss as they’ve turned 2-8 into 10-8. The winner gets either No. 3 Windham or No. 14 Spaulding in Saturday’s quarters.

Nashua South (7-11) is No. 13 and will be at No. 4 Pinkerton (14-4) in their prelim. The Astros beat the Panthers 3-0 in September; the winner gets either No. 5 Dover or No. 12 Goffstown.

The ony home prelim will be No. 8 Bishop Guertin (12-6) vs. No. 9 Keene (11-7). The winner’s prize is a visit to Bedford in Saturday’s quarters. Ouch.

Meanwhile, No. 2 Hollis Brookline (16-2) will host No. 15 Exeter (6-12) on Thursday, the winner getting either Concord or Portsmouth. HB beat Exeter 3-0, but did not play Concord or Portsmouth.

DIVISION II

Remember, this tourney starts Wednesday, with red hot No. 4 Milford (13-3) hosting No. 13 Manchester West (7-11) at 6 p.m. and No. 6 Campbell (12-4) hosting No. 11 Prospect Mountain (7-11).

Milford-West gets either No. 5 Laconia or No. 12 Plymouth on Saturday (Milford hosts if win). The Spartan beat Plymouth 3-0 but did not face Laconia during the season.

Campbell (12-4) and will have to travel to No. 3 Oyster River (14-2, first round bye) if it wins Wednesday. The Cougars beat Prospect Mountain 3-0 but lost to the Bobcats 3-2.

FIELD HOCKEY

Today at Exeter, the No. 2 Clippers (14-1) will try to avenge their lone loss of the season, a 2-0 decision against No. 3 Souhegan (13-1-1) at 5 p.m. at Bill Ball Stadium.

“We saw Portsmouth real early in the season,” Sabers coach Kelli Braley said. “A lot’s changed since then, I’m sure. I’d like to think we’ve grown a lot, and I’ve got to imagine they’ve grown a lot, too. It will be an exciting game.”

FOOTBALL NOTE

Every has assumed Bishop Guertin would host Pinkerton in the Division I quarterfinals a week from this weekend. But…it could be Londonderry. Salem could actually grab the top seed thanks to using the football point-rating system, if North beats Londonderry and the Blue Devils beat Merrimack on Friday. The Titans, though, cannot make the playoffs, even if they upset the Lancers and Salem loses.
