HS Roundup: Locals do well in invitationals; North girls snap streak

It’s two weeks until the big divisional cross country meets and several local teams tuned up for them out of town at big invitational meets to headline a busy local sports Saturday.

Meanwhile, closer to home, the Nashua North girls soccer team snapped a seven game losing streak while the Hollis Brookline girls won their sixth in a row.

The rundown:

BOYS & GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

PELHAM INVITATIONAL

Chloe Trudel (18:44) paced the girls half of the Pelham Invitational, taking the win for Souhegan, which finished second to Keene, 34-45. Saber teammate Stephanie Svendsen (19:18.8) followed right behind in the runner up spot. Hollis Brookline’s Amy Pattelena (19:54.3) finished in the eighth spot.

Campbell finished fourth as a team. Crossing the line for the Cougars were Brooke Sullivan (21:55.2) in 22nd, Sophia Berube (22:09.4) in 27th and Amelia Silver in 28th (22:12.9).

Milford’s Victoria Cornaro (21:49.0) was 21st, Anna Philbrick (22:05.3) placed 26th and Abbey Halloran (22:52.0) was 40th.

On the boys side, Souhegan placed third overall with leading runner Jaren Noorda (17:19.4) in seventh. Others finishing for the Sabers were Nolan Dickinson (17:46.0) in 14th and Taloosh Anderson (18:14.4) in 22nd.

Hollis Brookline placed fifth overall as a team. Ryan Burgher (17:24.4) led the Cavs with an eighth place finish, Ayden Finnegan (18:45.7) was 31st and Jacob Dwyer (18:52.7) was 32nd.

The Cougars from Campbell ended their day in the ninth overall spot. Devin Lencki (17:57.4) finished in 20th; Andrew Robert (19:00.8) was 38th and Keegan Reynolds (19:39.9) was 43rd. Daniel Dixon (17:28.6) led the charge for Milford with a ninth place finish, Nathan Caron (20:04.4) was 50th and Adam Holodowski (20:26.8) was 57th.

BLACK BEAR INVITATIONAL (Coe-Brown)

Bishop Guertin came home with an overall team win at the Black Bear Invitational. Nate Fondakowski (16:38) led the charge with a third place finish, Sean O’Keefe (17:14) finished 10th and Matthew Giardina (17:24) placed 12th.

CATHOLIC MEMORIAL INVITATIONAL

MaryKate Finn (19:31.1) brought home a win for Bishop Guertin in the girls portion of the 60th Annual Catholic Memorial Invitational in Boston’s Franlin Park. Fiona Doherty (20:34.4) was seventh and Madeleine Moynihan (21:20.4) finished ninth to help the Cardinals to the overall team win.

Nashua North boys had an overall team finish of third in the Silver Race. Matthew Robert (18:09.7) finished in fifth, D’Sean Coffie (18:34.6) was 10th and Andrew LaFlamme (19:01.6) ended the day in 13th.

The North girls had a great day as well finishing second in the team overall. Tiana Brown (20:08.3) was fourth, Laura White (21:35.1) finished 10th and Christina Juris (22:13.8) was 14th.

Nashua South boys ran in the Red Race portion ending in the fifth overall position. Juho Hahto (17:46.0) was the only Panther to finish in the top 10 placing in ninth. Clifford Teixeira (18:26.3) placed 19th and Evan LaFleur (18:39.6) was 25th.

BOW 43,

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 16

A couple of years ago, the Cavaliers beat the Falcons in the Division II semis en route to their state championship.

But that didn’t happen Saturday, as the Falcons pulled away to post their second of the year (2-3) drop the Cavs to 2-5.

HB will host St. Thomas on Friday night.

MERRIMACK 48,

WINDHAM 27 (Friday)

The Tomahawks (3-4) won their second in a row, as Mello Hyde had a monster game, with 213 rushing and receiving yards and five TDs.

Kyle Crampton threw three TDs and rushed for 50 yards, throwing for 200.

Windham fell to 1-6 with its fifth straight loss. The ‘Hawks are at Keene next Saturday.

GIRLS SOCCER

NASHUA NORTH 2,

MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 1

The Titans (3-11) end their tough streak with a home win as Aiyana Zubhuza and Brooke Lane each tallied a goal.

North visits Londonderry on Tuesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2,

LEBANON 1

The Cavaliers win their sixth straight game to improve to 9-4-1. Mackenna Maguire scored twice in the first half. Maggie Crooks held down the fort in net including a breakaway save to preserve the lead.

HB visits Sanborn on Tuesday.

BOYS SOCCER

MERRIMACK VALLEY 2,

SOUHEGAN 1

The host Sabers (5-9) drop their sixth straight contest. Goalie Ryan Lockitt made 12 saves in net and Coleman Paulini scored Souhegan’s lone goal in the 67th minute.

Souhegan hosts Oyster River on Tuesday.

LEBANON 4,

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

The Cavaliers lose to a stout Lebanon squad on the road. HB sits at 10-2-2 when they host Sanborn on Tuesday.
