HS Roundup: North volleyball gets second win; South boys soccer ties

Nashua High School North coach Nicole Fitzgibbons told her team after its tough 1-6 start to trust the process and its ability, and the Titans did just that Monday night in getting their second win of the year.

Meanwhile, the Nashua High School South boys soccer team remained undefeated — but didn’t win:

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

NASHUA NORTH 3,

MANCHESTER CENTRAL 0

Mina Regnery had 10 aces, 10 digs, a kill and an assist as the Titans improved to 2-6.

Other North standouts included Rhea Mallea (five digs, two aces one kill), Mardy Novak (22 aces, three kills, one ace), Alyssa Stanton (seven kills, four aces, three digs) and Olivia Mazerolle (six kills, one ace, one dig).

North hosts Londonderry on Wednesday.

GOFFSTOWN 3,

NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Panthers started out with a hard-fought 30-28 opening set win, but then dropped the next three 26-24, 25-23, 25-12 to fall to 3-5.

Katrina Norton had 12 kills while Nina Mahalingam added 20 digs and three aces. Kate Garland (six kills, 11 assists, eight aces) and Kellie Ryan (11 digs, six aces, and three kills) also played well.

BEDFORD 3,

BISHOP GUERTIN 0

The Cardinals dropped their third straight match after starting the season off with five straight wins.

Julia Foster (nine assists, two digs), Natalie Houth (10 digs) and Alex Nutting (three kills, one block) played well despite the Cards suffering a 25-15, 25-16, 25-14 sweep.

BG hosts Nashua South on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3,

WINNACUNNET 0

The Cavaliers improved to 7-1 led by Annette Schlunk’s 15 kills. Meaghan Coutu added five kills, three aces while Lydia Daskalos had three kills and thre aces. Emily Sartell added five aces while Anneli DiVirgillo (three aces) and Maggie Nobles (three kills) also helped out.

HB welcomes Spaulding on Wednesday.

CONCORD 3,

MERRIMACK 0

The Tomahawks are now 2-7 after suffering a 25-16, 25-20, 25-18 sweep.

Lily Petrocelli had two blocks, eight kills and eight digs to lead the locals, who also got good play from Julia Bradley (five kills, seven digs), Marisa Cray (eight assists, four digs) and Harley Twofoot (six assists, eight digs).

FIELD HOCKEY

WINDHAM 5,

NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Panthers got 15 saves from goalie Kaitlyn Tello, but saw their two-game win streak snapped and fell to 3-5-2 on the season. South is at Pinkerton on Wednesday.

BOYS SOCCER

NASHUA SOUTH 1,

EXETER 1 (2 OT)

The Panthers yes, stay unbeaten at 9-0-1, but weren’t able to get victory No. 10 in a double overtime thriller at Stellos Stadium.

South visits Concord on Thursday. Exeter, meanwhile,is now 6-3-1.

COE-BROWN 2,

SOUHEGAN 1

Senior-laden host Coe-Brown scored two first-half goals and held on to drop the Sabers to 5-4. Souhegan scored in the 54th minute, Ryan Fillion’s drive deflected into the net by Mike Erickson.

Ryan Lockitt had 14 saves for Souhegan, which visits Milford on Friday.
