HS Roundup: South girls soccer, volleyball on top; HB bows

Friday was a good day for Nashua South’s girls soccer and volleyball teams, as the Panthers edged Windham in soccer and picked up their first volleyball win of the season.

On the down side, Bedford once again topped Hollis Brookline in a rematch of last year’s Division I girls volleyball finals.

Here’s a look at a typical busy Friday around the area:

GIRLS SOCCER

NASHUA SOUTH 1,

WINDHAM 0

Soraya Ross scores the lone goal of the match on an assist from Camille Michon. Abby Finchum played well in net and Kylie Dawson anchored the defense for the Panthers (3-2-1). South visits Alvirne on Tuesday.

MILFORD 6,

KINGSWOOD 0

The Spartans (4-1-2) capture their third straight win with a shutout against Kingswood. Maritsa Sage scored two and Alina St George netted one. Carol Raiano contributed with an assist.

Milford visits Kennett on Tuesday.

BOYS SOCCER

SOUHEGAN 1,

PEMBROKE 0 (OT)

Mike Erickson closed out the high blood pressure match in the 89th minute to give the Sabers the win. Alan Clay assisted on the goal and Ryan Lockitt made 10 saves.

Souhegan holds a 4-2 record when they visit Coe-Brown on Tuesday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 3,

EXETER 0

The Panthers (1-3) get their first win of the year defeating Exeter 25-22, 25-15, 25-11. Nina Mahalingam (17 digs), Katrina Norton (eight kills, three aces, two blocks), Katie Garland (five kills, five assists, four digs, four aces) and Moran Gillis (four blocks, two kills) played outstanding for the Panthers. South hosts Manchester Memorial on Monday.

BEDFORD 3,

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

The Cavaliers suffered their first loss of the season, 25-20, 25-20, 25-16, despite the play of Meaghan Coutu (nine kills), Cheyenne Colbert and Annette Schlunk (seven kills apiece).

Sophia Jordan had 30 assists for HB, now 4-1 and set to visit Windham on Monday. Bedford is now 5-0.

ALVIRNE 3,

MERRIMACK 0

The Broncos swept the Tomahawks (2-4) to improve to 4-2. Playing well for Merrimack were Eva Page, Lily Petrocelli and Kaylee Bormuth.

Alvirne visits Concord and Merrimack hosts Goffstown on Monday.

CONCORD 3,

NASHUA NORTH 1

The Titans (1-4) fall to Concord 23-25, 25-20, 19-25, 18-25. Sasha Riabova played phenomenal collecting 19 assists, 14 digs and three aces in the stat column. Alyssa Stanton (seven digs, six kills, three aces), Mina Regnery (16 digs, two aces) and Kelsey Laliberte (six kills, two blocks) also played well for the locals.

North visits Bedford on Monday.

FIELD HOCKEY

LONDONDERRY 2,

NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Panthers (1-4-2) dropped their second in a row to the Lancers on Friday afternoon. Kaitlyn Tello had eight saves in goal. Others playing well were Maren Lowell, Soleil Dubois, Olivia Laro and Kaitlyn West.

South plays Nashua North in Battle of the Bridge on Monday.

PORTSMOUTH 8,

MILFORD 1

The Spartans dropped to 0-6 on the season after a loss on the road. Chloe Houston scored for the locals. Milford hosts John Stark on Monday.

KINGSWOOD 1,

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0 (OT)

The Cavaliers (3-3) fall short in a hard fought game that went into overtime against Kingswood. The HB defense and midfield played an amazing game led by Hailey Arseneau, Shea Davidson, Helene McNabb, Emma Harley, Alyssa Hill, Kaitlyn Castriotta, and Meg King. Goalie Rae Kline came up big with five saves on the night. HB heads to Goffstown on Monday.

The Titans came in second in their matchup on Friday afternoon. Eva Gonzales (37), Jack Sullivan (41), Jeff Maddock (42), Andrew Barry (43), Braeden Welch (43) and Thomas Laurendi (45) all played well for North.
