Lifeless Nashua South crushed by Londonderry, 43-0

LONDONDERRY – Two weeks in, staring at some truly brutal numbers, the Nashua South High School football team has reached a critical point.

“We’ll deal with this tomorrow. We’ll be OK,” said South coach Scott Knight, whose club heads to winless Merrimack on Friday night. “Chemistry … We just have to regroup tomorrow.”

Londonderry, now 2-0, simply toyed with 0-2 Purple Panthers, building a 23-0 halftime lead, landing the knockout blows in the third and eventually cruising 43-0 in a demolition.

“We didn’t come ready, it was evident when we warmed up, our heads were in the clouds,” said South coach Scott Knight.

“They were better than us tonight. That’s for sure. They played a great game. I know it was an emotional night for them. They played a lot faster than we did all over the field. We just didn’t have any answers.”

Londonderry, celebrating the memory of 2020 captain Jake Naar, who tragically passed away last year, wasn’t about to see the evening spoiled before a large home crowd.

There just was no highlight moment for South, which broke the plane of the 50-yard line once deep into the fourth quarter, only to fumble the football away on the play – the Panthers’ third turnover of the night, fifth in the two games played.

“Overall, we were just bad in every phase,” said Knight, whose club is yet to register a turnover on defense.

After putting up 36 points in a decisive loss to Salem in the opener, the South offense ground to a halt on Friday night.

While Londonderry scooted to a 10-0 advantage in the first quarter, the Panthers had garnered 9 total yards on eight plays.

Things didn’t improve.

South mustered 93 yards on the night on just 34 snaps. Compoh had the bulk of those with 60 yards on 12 carries, plus a catch for 11 more.

“We have some inexperience in some areas, we have a couple injuries right now – not like (43-0),” said Knight. “Our strength is our guys up front, I’m anxious to see the film. I don’t think we did much. I’m pretty disappointed.”

Dylan Wrisley opened the scoring with a 33-yard field goal, and Lancer QB Aidan Washington raced in from 12 yards out untouched to make it 10-0.

Andrew Kullman raced 57 yards down the right sideline for the next score, and Matt Perron bulled in from the 5 to close out the first-half point spree at 23-0.

In the third, it was Trevor Weinmann from 15 on a reverse, followed by a Washington to Kullman 55-yard pass play that spun the clock into running-time mode at 36-zip.

For good measure, Nathan Rosario piled on a 39-yard burst, ending a rugged night for the Panthers, who’ll need to find a remedy quick if they are to recover in the Division 1 West standings.
