NASHUA – The defending New Hampshire American Legion champs are one win away from a repeat.

Nashua Coffey Post 3 made it three wins in three days at Historic Holman Stadium, blanking Laconia in the winners’ bracket final, 4-0, on Sunday night.

Nashua will now take Monday off, allowing the three remaining teams – Laconia, Portsmouth and Keene all of whom have one loss – sort things out.

The survivor of Monday’s action will need to defeat the unbeaten hosts twice on Tuesday.

Charlie Hale, who picked up the save in Friday’s opener, earned the victory on Sunday. The Hollis Brookline High School junior spun six innings of two-hit ball, striking out seven in the win. Nolan Mederos came on to pitch the seventh. After walking the first two batters he faced, the Nashua South High School senior struck out the side to end it.

Isaac Zhang provided all the run support Coffey Post would need with an RBI hit in the third. Jack Bergin pitched in an RBI hit in the fourth, making it 2-0.

The visiting team in the game, Nashua got two more in the top of the seventh with leadoff man Derek Finlay trotting home on a wild pitch for one. Kyle Lavigne was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to produce the other.

Coffey Post coach Tim Lunn now has an interesting decision for Tuesday as Friday’s starter and winner, Corey O’Day, could return to the mound for the title game. Mederos is also an option for the host team.

On Monday, the winner of the 4 p.m. game with Portsmouth and Keene will need to come right back in a second game vs. Laconia.

That winner will face Nashua.
