Tourney Roundup: O’Brien’s eight goals lead North; HB reaches sems

The Tourney Trail was red hot on a cool Monday.
It began locally with girls lacrosse in the morning and early afternoon, continued with baseball,girls tennis, and ended with a Souhegan softball thriller at night at Rivier University.
Here’s a look at a busy Memorial Day:
GIRLS LACROSSE
DIVISION I
NASHUA NORTH 17,
KEENE/MONADNOCK 7
Kiley O’Brien (two assists, six draw controls) netted eight goals to lead the Titans to the next round. Lily Brooks added five goals, four assists and seven draw controls.
Keira Sice (three draw controls), Reagan Belanger (one goal, one assist), Olivia Watt (one goal, one assist), Ava Soucy (one goal) and Summer St. Pierre (one goal, two assists) helped the locals offensive output. Samantha Canto stood tall in net making six saves.
North plays Bishop Guertin on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
BEDFORD 13,
SOUHEGAN 6
The Sabers road ends with a loss to the Bulldogs. Abby Hawkes recorded a hat trick with Lyla Kimball (one assist), Delaney Facques (one assist) and Cali Bishop adding one goal each. Shannon Hargreaves made 12 saves in net.
DOVER 18,
MERRIMACK 6
The Tomahawks couldn’t keep pace with the Green Wave, as their rebuilding season (3-12) came to an end at Student Memorial Field.
DIVISION III PRELIMS
PELHAM 19,
MILFORD 9
The Spartans; season ended after tough loss to the Pythons. Kylie Greska scored seven goals and Alexa Wilder added two. Alyssa Godewski, Ariana Brew and Kate Hansen played tough defense all game.
CAMPBELL 20,
TRINITY 8
Elayna Montenero’s five goals and five assists performance nailed down a win for the Cougars and a spot in the Quarter Finals. Bailey Bourque had five goals and an assist, Jose Oberto tallied four goals with three assists and Julia Theriault added two goals and an assist. Phoebe Drouin had seven saves between the pipes.
Campbell hosts Pelham on Wednesday.
BOYS LACROSSE
DIVISION II PLAY-IN
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 18,
WINDHAM 9
The Cavaliers doubled up on the Jaguars to continue their tournament run. Joe O’Riley (five assists), Jake Roy and Ethan Bender (two assists) each found the back of the net four times to lead the offense.
Hunter Hudzik (two assists) added three goals while Tommy Anderson (two assists), Ben Dufoe (one assist) and Garrett Sturges had one goal apiece. Scott Walsh made 10 saves with Justin Colby and Sal Vella won 19 face-offs collectively.
HB will be at Keene in the Prelims on Wednesday.

DIVISION II QUARTERS
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 7,
MILFORD 2
The Cavaliers move onto the Semis after a decisive win over the Spartans. Singles winners were Lia Eisenberg (8-5), Keira Swart (8-1), Samantha Morse (8-0), Natasha Ferro (8-0) and Hannah Escandon (8-0). Doubles winners were Morse/Swart (8-0) and Abby Cooldige/Mikayla Coolidge (8-0).
BASEBALL
DIVISION III PLAY-IN
SOMERSWORTH 9,
CAMPBELL 1
The Cougars; championship hopes ended at the hands of Somerworth. Ryan Latsha (1 for 4), Andrew Durfee (2 for 4), Will McPherson (1 for 3) and Cam Feely (1 for 3) played well at the plate for Campbell.
Latsha pitched five and two thirds innings striking out four and giving up one earned run.
DIVISION IV PLAY-IN
DERRYFIELD 8,
WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 0
The game was scoreless in the fourth inning and the Warriors had a bases loaded opportunity, but failed to score. Then, the flood gates opened for Derryfield and WLC couldn’t keep pace,and the Warriors season comes to a close.
SOFTBALL
DIVISION II PLAY-IN
PELHAM 7,
SOUHEGAN 6
The Sabers entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 7-3 and their rally fell just short at Rivier University.
Souhegan trailed 3-0 but a three run homer by Saber Danielle Drobat tied it at 3 before the Pythons scored two runs with two out in the fifth to grab a 5-3 lead. Pelahm got two insurance runs in the top of the seventh that made it a 7-3 game and proved to be the difference.
