HS Roundup: South boys tennis rules; Milford teams win

While the Nashua South girls won a nail biter over their rival Nashua North girls tennis team, it wasn’t that close on Friday on the boys side as the Panthers improved to 9-1 on the season, easily beating the Titans before things went to doubles.

Meanwhile, a good day for Milford baseball and softball with one-run wins, but a tough one for North and South softball.

Here’s the Friday rundown:

BOYS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 8,

NASHUA NORTH 1

The Panthers swept singles to keep their winning ways going, improving to 9-1 as one of Division I’s top teams.

Winners for South included Santiago Somorrostro (8-2), Atul Phadke (8-0), Akhil Kammila (8-3), Neil Kachappilly (8-0), Praneet Nadella (8-1) and Kaushik Tadipathri (8-1).

North’s Rudra Patel played tough n the loss to Kammila at No. 3 singles. The Titans also got a win at No. 1 doubles, when Stephen Norris/Carson Goh won 8-6. South won at the other two doubles, Ben Lambright/Tyler McCabe at No. 2, 8-1, and Connor Foti/Aiden D’Mello 8-2 at No. 3.

The Panthers are at Merrimack at Monday, while North (5-4) is at Bishop Guertin.

GIRLS LACROSSE

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 14,

ALVIRNE 3

The Cavaliers improved to 5-3 as Abbie Ogren led the scoring with four goals. Nicole Heiter (one assist) and Kaitlyn Castriota each scored twice. AbbeyMagnuszewski and Alyssa Hill both had one goal and two assists, and Julia Vella scored her first career goal. Hallie Bardani, Cailean Roy, and Daniella Allanach each scored a goal, while Morgan Broadhurst, Ellie Maxwell, and Sammy Atlas added an assist.

Libby Rutledge had a solid game in the goal in front of stellar defense by Mack Jusczak.

SOFTBALL

MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 12,

NASHUA NORTH 10

The Titans struggled defensively in the second inning, miscues aiding the Crusaders in a 10-run frame.

However, the Titans weren’t going to let that stop them from making a charge, as they scored seven in the fourth on hits by Paige Stapledon, Mackenzie Brady, Samantha Small, Tylea Wong and walks to Aaralyn Lopez and Kayla Redman.

Wong went 2 for 4 while Mackenzie Tanner went 3 for 4 with a triple. Lissette Medina had a great day in relief in the circle, striking out three. Meanwhile Cailen Carbonneau played well defensively in center field, cutting down a Crusader at second on a hit to the fence with help from Kayla Redman.

The Titans (1-11) visit Bishop Guertin on Monday.

CONCORD 6,

NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Panthers led Concord 1-0 in the sixth but the Tide opened things up The game was 1-0 South at the top of the sixth before Concord opened it up, using a stolen base and big triple.

The Panthers (3-9) outhit the Tide 6-5.

Natalie Ward toed the rubber for South. The righthander allowed five hits and six runs over seven innings, striking out 13.

Morgan Gillis, Audra Robinson, Lexi Roberge, Jillian Daley, Lizzie DeRusha, and Isabel Mederos each collected one hit to lead South.

The Panthers host Merrimack on Monday.

MILFORD 6,

SANBORN 5

The Spartans (4-3) recovered from Sanborn taking a 5-3 lead in the top of the seventh with three of their own in the bottom half for a walkoff win on a Steph Stillwagon (3 for 4, two RBIs) RBI hit. Two passed balls brough home an earlier run and Keelie Wells (1 for 4, RBI) hit a hard grounder to plate the tying run.

Other standouts for Milford included Anna Philbrick(2 for 4), Madi Herbert (2 for 4), Hannah Harrington (3 for 4, double), Ali Fortin (2 for 3, two RBIs) and Alexia Warren (hit).

Madie Herbert wen the distance in the circle, giving up seven hits with no walks and eight strikeouts.

Milford hosts ConVal on Monday.

BASEBALL

MILFORD 3,

SANBORN 2

The Spartans scored all three of their runs in the first two innings to improve to 6-1 in Division II.

Jake Lammi went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Nick Conforti also went 2 for 3 with a run scored, and Trice Cote had a triple and an RBI.

Brandon Shaw got the complete game win on the mound for Milford, tossing a four-hitter and striking out eight.

ALVIRNE 14,

TRINITY 0

The Broncos (9-2) keep playing quality baseball under first year head coach Adam Perkins, winning their fifth straight.

They’ll face a big test on the road Monday at Londonderry.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3,

JOHN STARK 0

The Cavaliers improved to 6-2 with a 25-16, 25-9, 25-12 sweep of the 0-6 Generals.

Leading the way for the Sabers was Jake Laborde with five aces and six kills, plus Brian Szewczyk (five aces, three blocks, two kills), John Sommer (three aces, three kills), and Max Marshall (two aces, 15 assists).

HB, which faces Souhegan on Tuesday, also got solid defense from Spencer Murray and Liam Troddyn.
