HS Roundup: Panthers, Cards, Sabers get diamond wins

Friday was Diamond Day, as local baseball teams enjoyed a good one.

Nashua South last night at Gill Stadium joined Nashua North, Bishop Guertin and Souhegan in getting wins; Merrimack fell short but competed in a tough loss vs. Bedford.

But also, the Nashua North boys lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season after an 0-5 start.

Here’s how things went:

BASEBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 13,

MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 11

The Panthers (2-4) snapped a four-game losing streak but needed reliever Drew Frost to squelch a Crusader six-run rally in the seventh after South was up 13-5.

River Hart had a big night, going 4 for 5 with two RBI and four runs scored to lead South’s 14 hit attack.Leo Kopiko went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, while Jeff Lugo, Dean Adams and Jake O’Connor all had two hits. Isaiah Hedquist had a hit to drive in three and scored twice.

Frost had two Ks in his relief stint while Adams tossed four innings of three-hit, one-run ball with four walks and four striketouts to get the win as the starter.

BISHOP GUERTIN 8,

KEENE 4

The visitng Cardinals won their fourth straight as Jake Boudreau grabbed the win going four innings, allowing no runs, two hits and struck out six.

Hayden Shattuck (three runs, two stolen bases), Alex Lambalot (run, RBI) and Kam Thibault (double, two RBIs, stolen base) led the charge offensively.

BG visits Alvirne on Monday.

SOUHEGAN 14,

CONVAL 3

Dylan Dufour’s (four hits) great day at the plate led the Sabers to a win on Friday.

Souhegan notched five runs in the third inning with the help from Dufour, Keegan Burke (two stolen bases), Kyan Bagshaw and Colin Burke each tallying RBIs. Colin Burke picked up the win allowing two hits, no runs and striking out three in two innings.

Souhegan hosts Windham on Monday.

BEDFORD 7,

MERRIMACK 5

The Tomahawks lose their sixth straight contest on the heels of the Bulldogs. Owen Medlock had a double and Aidan Ponder added a triple. Dylan Brander took the loss allowing seven runs on eight hits and struck out three. Merrimack (1-6) hosts Keene on Monday.

SOFTBALL

ALVIRNE 17,

NASHUA NORTH 6

The Broncos locked down their fourth straight win and second against the Titans as Courtney Marioles (two RBIs, two runs) and Alyssa Abbott (three runs) had good days at the plate.

Jaelyn Green also had two runs scored. Megan Jacques pitched two innings and Marioles pitched five innings, combining for seven hits and 12 strikeouts.

For North, Mackenzie Tanner went 3 for 4 with three singles. Riley Brady got two singles. Cailin Carbonneau has a single and a BB. Mackenzie Brady had a two RBI single.

Riley Brady displayed great blocking behind the plate. Tylea Wong played an excellent first base. Samantha Small and Kayla Redman had excellent games defending the middle.

Alvirne visits Bishop Guertin on Monday and North hosts Pinkerton on Monday.

BOYS LACROSSE

PINKERTON 16,

MERRIMACK 1

The Tomahawks (2-3) were upended by the Astros Friday afternoon. Matthew Todd and Kyle Crampton had a goal and an assist respectively.

Alex Griffin made five saves in net, while Nolan Anderson had one save. Merrimack visits Derryfield on Saturday.

NASHUA NORTH 8,

ALVIRNE 3

The Titans (1-5) picked up their first win after a tough start to the season.

Jayden Montgomery found the back of the net twice and Aaron Palmer added one goal. Jack Peters and Robert Cannaway picked up eight ground balls in the contest.

North hosts Merrimack on Monday and Alvirne visits Keene on Tuesday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

NASHUA NORTH 17,

KEENE 4

The Titans (6-0) remain undefeated with a dominant performance against Keene. Kiley O’Brien (three assists) and Keira Sice (two assists) scored five goals apiece.

Lily Brooks (two assists) and Kaylyn Crear had three goals and two goals respectively. North visits Pinkerton on Monday.

GIRLS TENNIS

GOFFSTOWN 5,

MERRIMACK 4

The Tomahawks suffered a close loss battling the wind. Merrimack winners were Shu Grosso (8-0) and Emily Winefield (8-2) in singles. The teams of Grosso/Sarah Hardy (8-1) and Winefield/Jordan Zebuhr (8-6) won in doubles action.

Merrimack hosts Keene on Monday.
