HS Roundup: No vacation for ‘Hawks lax or Panther tennis

While it may be school vacation week, it’s not a vacation for high school sports.

Just ask the Merrimack boys lacrosse team, which won a thriller in overtime over Salem. Or the 4-1 Nashua South boys tennis team, which handed Bishop Guertin its first loss.

Here are the highlights from a vacation week Tuesday:

BOYS LACROSSE

MERRIMACK 10,

SALEM 9 (OT)

Jackson Forbes scored the game winner in overtime to lift the Tomahawks (2-2). Jason Hostler led the scoring with three goals and two assists and Matthew Todd tallied three goals and one assist.

Kyle Dunn had two goals, Shea Goodwin had one goal, Connor Lanigan tossed two assists and Sean Morrilly added one assist to the score sheet. Alex Griffin made eight saves between the pipes.

Merrimack hosts Pinkerton on Thursday.

CAMPBELL 12,

TRINITY 7

The Cougars (3-2) lock down their third straight win. Jack Noury was on fire with six goals and two assists, Drew Adamakos had four goals and three assists and Brendan Boschi added two goals and two assists.

Goalie Ryan Guerrette made 14 saves, while Jackson Kanaley and Eric Coates played great defensively.

Campbell hosts Trinity on Friday.

BASEBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 4,

PORTSMOUTH 2

Colin Toohey got the win going 1 1/3 innings with one strikeout, while P.J. Benitez was strong on the mound in his first varsity start going 4 2/3 allowing two runs on six hits while striking out three.

Kyle Lavigne got the save pitching one inning with one strikeout. BG (2-4) had a hit and an RBI from Dominic Monico, Alex Lambalot and Jake Mitchell.

BG and Nashua South tangle again at Holman today.

MASCENIC 8,

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 1

The Warriors were not able to hold down Mascenic at home. Troy Brennan stayed hot going 3 for 4. The rematch will on Friday at Mascenic.

SOFTBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 13,

PORTSMOUTH 1

The Cardinals win in dominant fashion and improves to 3-2 on the season. Meghan Davey pitched a complete game for the Cardinals, striking out six and giving up only two hits.

She was backed by solid defense led by Kyleigh Guerette. Offensively, Maddy Bowen went 4 for 4 with a stand up triple. Stephanie Coulombe, Emma Charron, and Bailey Doyle each had two hits in the contest.\

BG visits Nashua South on Wednesday.

CAMPBELL 19,

GOFFSTOWN 9

Lyndsey Brown knocked out two homeruns including a grand slam to lead the Cougars (4-0). Catherine Carignan, Chloe Steiniger, Riley Gamache and Morgan Bruner all had multiple hits in the contest.

Maddie Davis pitched four innings giving up five hits and six runs, while striking out six.

Campbell hosts Bishop Brady on Friday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

NASHUA NORTH 8,

KEENE 3

Kiley O’Brien’s five goals and two assists performance leads the Titans to a road win. Lily Brooks (two goals, five draw controls), Keira Sice (one goal, one assist) and Reagan Belanger (one assist) also played well for the locals.

Samantha Canto made six saves in net. The two team will play again on Friday in Nashua.

SOUHEGAN 15,

MANCHESTER CENTRAL 0

The Sabers enjoyed a high scoring effort. Margot Manz led the offense with three goals, Elle Stevenson had two goals, Kenzie Cretsinger scored two goals and Delaney Facques also found the back of the net twice.

Lyla Kimball, Emma Kennedy, Cali Bishop (four assists), Abby Hawkes, Eva Stine and Nicole O’Rourke had one goal apiece.

Souhegan hosts Central on Thursday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

WINDHAM 3,

BSIHOP GUERTIN 1

The Cardinals (3-3) falter to the Jaguars 22-25, 24-26, 25-22, 16-25. DJ Omogrosso had a stellar game with 20 kills, 10 digs and nine blocks.

Erik Wizboski (35 assists, five kills, five blocks, three aces), Joey Farris (10 digs, two aces) and Trent Rider (eight kills) played well for the locals.

BG hosts Goffstown on May 4.

BOYS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 6,

BISHOP GUERTIN 3

The Panthers keep on rolling with a solid win against the Cardinals.

South winners were Santiago Somorrstro (9-8), Akhil Kammila (8-6), Neil Kachappily (8-6), Praneet Nadella (8-0) and Kaushik Tadipathri (8-3). Doubles winner was the team of Kammila/Kachappily (8-4).

Tommy Lubin took the lone win for BG in singles competition. The teams of Pranav Marwaha/Dean Liakos (8-5) and Ryan Wallat/Aditya Bhattaria (8-3) won their matches for the Cardinals.

South and BG face off again on Thursday.

BOYS&GIRLS TRACK

LOCALS SHINE

IN MERRIMACK SELECT

The meet Tuesday morning included Bishop Guertin, Pinkerton, Windham and Merrimack. It was a championship format meet with finals for the athletes to get prepared for the Division meets. The meet was not scored.

The Merrimack girls were led by Kailey Dillon, who won the 100m dash, anchored the winning 4x100m relay team, finished 2nd in the High Jump, and 4th in the 300m hurdles.

Freshman, Alexis Best set a new freshman record in winning the 200m dash and was second in the long jump. Freshman Lilly Farrell won the triple jump, while senior Adele Alexander won the 1600 team. Senior Carolyn Zucowska was second in the discus and third in the shot put.
