HS Roundup: Panther girls stun BG; Broncos edge North

This is definitely a different year in local high school girls tennis, shown by Monday’s Nashua South narrow win over Bishop Guertin, the first time in recent memory that the Panthers prevailed.
It handed the Cards their first loss of the season (4-1).
Meanwhile, Alvirne baseball team continued its winning ways with its fourth win in a row, a walkoff 7-6 win over Nashua North and Souhegan clubbed ConVal to remain unbeaten.
The rundown:
GIRLS TENNIS
NASHUA SOUTH 5,
BISHOP GUERTIN 4
The Panthers took four of six singles, and then were able to manage a doubles win Dani and Kethi Reddy at No. 3 for their third straight win (3-2).
Priva Shokeen (8-2), Abby Finchum (8-1), Kat Tsao (8-0) and Shreya Kethi Reddy (8-0) triumphed in singles for the Panthers.
Guertin’s two singles winners were Hannah Gilbertson (8-2) at No. 1 and Abbey Linskey (8-1) at No. 5.
Guertin made a run with wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles, with Gilbertson and Laura Bucci and Hailey Barker/Linskey prevailing by identical 8-5 scores.
The two teams tangle again Wednesday at 10 a.m.at Nashua South.
ALVIRNE 5,
NASHUA NORTH 4
After splitting singles, the Broncos took two of three doubles to hand the Titans (3-1) their first loss of the spring.
Gabbi Cummins/Kanzi Legg won at No. 2 doubles, 8-4 and Marissa Murphy/Ruby Dione won at No. 3, 8-2.
The Broncos singles winners were Avery Baker (8-6), Legg (8-2) and Dione, while North’s wins were by Ashley Goh at No. 1 (8-5), Lillian Azevedo (8-6) and Caitlyn Mamos (8-6). The Titans No. 1 doubles team of Goh and Andrea Milani also won, 8-2.
PINKERTON 6,
MERRIMACK 3
Shu Grosso continued her fine spring for the Tomahawks, winning her No. 1 singles match 8-1 while teaming up with Colette Hutchinson for a triumph at No. 1 doubles, 9-7.
Merrimack’s other pint came from an 8-6 doubles win by the tandem of Sarah Hardy/Emily Winefield.
BOYS TENNIS

The Broncos improved to 4-1 with a dominant match, losing only seven games. Winners included Peyton Meuse (8-0), Ashton Meuse (8-0), Tom Bondaruk (8-1), Charlie Thomas (8-1), Jon Rudy (8-1) and Broady Burke (8-1).
Meuse/Meuse (8-0), Bondaruk/Thomas (8-2) and Rudy/Burke (8-1) won in doubles. The Titans’ No. 2 team of Rudra Patel and Shikar Gupta managed to win more than one game in their match.
BASEBALL
ALVIRNE 7,
NASHUA NORTH 6
The Broncos captured their fourth straight (4-1), winning on a walkoff in the bottom of the seventh.
Nick Jacques leading the 12-hit attack going 3 for 4 with a run and two RBIs, while Kyle Boulanger had two hits, scored three runs with an RBI. Other RBIs went to Josh MacDonald, Evan Beals and Braden Simard.
Jacob Hobard tossed six innings of six hit ball for Alvirne, striking out 10 while allowing four runs. Boulanger picked up the win with an inning of relief.
For North (3-3), Alex Meesig competed well, pitching six innings, allowing one earled run while striking out six.
Corey O’Day and Jimmy Reel both had homers on the day and Travis Holbrook was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
The teams meet again on Friday at Holman Stadium.
PINKERTON 14,
MERRIMACK 4
The Tomahawks (1-4) suffered their fourth straight loss as a five-run fifth buoyed the Astros.
Elliot Medlock had two hits to lead Merrimack, while Dylan Brander took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs on six hits over two innings with two strikeouts and a walk.
SOUHEGAN 17,
CONVAL 1

The Sabers (4-0) put the game out of reach with a 10-run third and also rode the arm of hurler Kyan Bagshaw (12 strikeouts accounting for all his outs over four innings). Dylan Dufour struck out two in an inning of relief.
Souhegan’s offense was led by Nick Wilson, Dylan Dufour, Anthony Paolicelli and Reece Colby (two hits apiece). The teams tangle in Peterborough on Friday.
SOFTBALL
BISHOP GUERTIN 15,
NASHUA SOUTH 3
The Panthers (1-4) took the lead early, scoring two of their runs in the top of the first on Lizzie DeRusha’s RBI double, but the Cardinals recovered to improve to 2-2.
Senior pitcher Katie Splaine went threw all five for BG, striking out four and walking one. Offensively, BG’s Petra Bajdek and Stephanie Coulombe had two hits apiece while Bailey Doyle went 3 for 4.
MERRIMACK 18,
PINKERTON 8
The Tomahawks improved to 4-1, pounding out 16 hits, paced by Hannah Stone (3 for 5,four RBIs), Erin Knauer (3 for 5, two runs), Morgan Goodspeed (2 hits including a triple, three walks, five runs scored), Allie O’Brien (2 for 5, three runs, RBI), and Ahlyn Casetty (two doubles, run scored).
Avery Hui tossed all seven innings, giving up six earned runs on nine hits while striking out seven.
ALVIRNE 21,
NASHUA NORTH 1
The Broncos continue their red hot play, winning their last three games by a combined score of 54-2.
North fell to 1-4. The two teams meet again in Hudson on Friday.
BOYS LACROSSE

Jaden Murphy had six goals and two assists to help the Panthers even their record to 2-2.
Others in the South scoring column included Griffin Johnson (three goals, four assists), Connor Rowsell (three goals, assist), Drew Fleury (two goals, two assists), Sam Fletcher (two goals, assist), Aidan Walsh, Rhett Medling, Ben Kalman, Ryan Salemi (one goal apiece).
Ethan Johnson had five saves in goal for the Panthers, while Aidan Johnson had 20 of 21 faceoff wins.
South faces BG tonight at 7 at Stellos Stadium.
