HS Roundup: Another Jacques prevails; Sabers stay hot

One good Jacques pitching performance for Alvirne deserves another.

While Bronco Nick Jacques was striking out 12 Nashua South hitters at Holman Stadium, Megan Jacques was blanking the Panther softball team for Alvirne in Hudson.

Also, Souhegan’s Nick Wilson continued his good early season with shutout ball. Merrimack girls lacrosse also got its first win of the season on a busy Friday:

SOFTBALL

ALVIRNE 12,

NASHUA SOUTH 0

(Five innings)

Bronco hurler Jacques got her second win in the circle in the last five days over the Panthers (1-3), tossing a two hitter over five innings, walking one while striking out six.

Audra Robinson and Lexi Roberge had South’s two hits.

Natalie Ward took the loss for the Panthers, who had Lizzie DeRusha throw two-thirds of an inning in relief. Ward did give up 10 runs on 11 hits, but also struck out nine.

Jacques was supported by 14 Bronco hits, and helped herself as she, Sabrina Testa, Delaney Power and Skye Merrow all had multiple hits. Testa had three stolen bases.

Alvirne (2-2), which faces Nashua North on Monday while South takes on Bishop Guertin, played errorless ball as well.

CAMPBELL 11,

MILFORD 1

Maddie Davis tossed a four hitter, allowing no runs with seven strikeouts over five innings for the Cougars (3-0). Sophomore Jackie Gamache pitched two frames allowing only one hit with two strikeouts.

The Cougar mound corps was helped by a 12-hit attack, highlighted by Chloe Steiniger’s two hits, including a two-run homer. Riley Gamache, Morgan Bruner, and Lindsay Brown each had two hits.

BASEBALL

SOUHEGAN 12,

MANCHESTER WEST 5

Nick Wilson continued his early-season mound dominance with three scoreless innings while the Sabers banged out 12 hits at Gill Stadium to improve to 3-0.

They plated four runs in both the first and fourth innings, and were paced by Nolan Colby’s 4 for 4 day. Freshman Nick Nowak had a three-run triple, Keegan Burke a two-run triple, and Reese Colby three singles in four trips.

Colin Burke and Wil Jaques followed Wilson in relief. Souhegan hosts ConVal on Monday at 4.

CONCORD 15,

BISHOP GUERTIN 6

The Cards fell to 0-4 despite good offensive days by Aiden Meaney (2 for 4, three-run homer), Jake Mitchell (2 for 4, run scored) and Dominic Monico (double, two runs.

Monico also made his varsity debut on the mound going two innings, allowing one run while striking out two. Noah Watcher led the Tide with three hits.

Guertin takes on Nashua South Monday at Holman Stadium at 4 p.m.

MILFORD 12,

CAMPBELL 2

Milford ran its record to 3-0 a Jake Lammi, Ben O’Connell, Nolan Ingemi, Trice Cote, and Sam Reid all had two hits in the Spartans’ 13 hit attack. Colin Williams collected his first varsity hit.

Nolan Ingemi got the win on the mound, going five innings giving up four hits and one earned run, striking out five. Brandon Shaw pitched the last two innings, striking out the side in both.

HINSDALE 8,

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 7

The Warriors had an error-filled day but stayed in the game thanks to Troy Brennan’s 4 for 6 performance with four doubles. Ty Bacci tossed a scoreless ninth and 10th for the Warriors (1-1),who left runners in scoring position in the eighth, ninth and 10th that could have given WLC a walkoff.

GIRLS LACROSSE

MERRIMACK 9,

SALEM 6

Paige Rivet had six goals and an assist while Hailey Riven added two with an assist as the Tomahawks picked up their first win of the season (1-4).

Lilly Marshall added a goal while Vanesa Kozinski, Eloise Fasano, and Arianna Arnold played well defensively.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 3,

MASCENIC 0

The Cards won their third straight (3-2) with a set sweep of 25-18, 25-20, 25-15.

D.J. Omogrosso had 11 kills and four blocks, while Erik Wizboski had five kills, one block and 21 assists. Joey Farris added two aces and seven digs.

BISHOP GUERTIN 8,

PINKERTON 1

The Cards continued their great start to the season as they took five out of six singles to secure the win.

Pranav Marwaha (8-0), Dean Liakos (8-3), Ryan Wallat (8-1), Gavin Bombara (8-5) and Ryan Stack (8-0) picked up triumphs.

The doubles teams of Marwaha/Liakos (8-1), Wallat Bombara (8-2) and Stack/Mutty (8-6) picked up wins as well.

NASHUA NORTH 7,

KEENE 2

The Titans dropped the first two singles matches then won the next seven to stay unbeaten.

North winners included Lillian Azevedo (8-5), Sonya Raue (8-1), Caitlyn Mamos (8-1) and Ashley O’Young (8-0) in singles. The doubles teams of Ashley Goh/Audrea Milani (8-3), Azevedo/Mamos (8-3) and Claire Desrosiers/Isabella Davidson (8-1) also prevailed.
