Several locals named to NH Shrine Game football team
Several locals were named to the New Hampshire squad for the 68th annual New Hampshire-Vermont Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl, set for Saturday, Aug. 7 at Castleton University’s Dave Wolk Stadium at 5:30 p.m.
Players from Nashua North, South, Merrimack and Campbell were named to the NH squad, coached by Kingswood’s Paul Landry.
Nashua North has two familiar names on the squad – receiver/linebacker Lucas Cunningham and receiver/defensive back Jayden Espinal. Both played huge roles in the Titans’ 2020 Division I championship season.
Nashua South standout quarterback/defensive back Chris Keefe was named to the squad, along with speedy receiver/defensive back Tyler Armeen.
Merrimack has two players on the team as well: running back/defensive back Jake Bunis, and 6-5, 285-pound two-way tackle Nate Lemire.
Representing Campbell will be running back/linebacker Kyle Wark.
The game was not played last year due to the pandemic. Alvirne High School football coach Tarek Rothe was supposed to coach that New Hampshire team, and sources say he was offered the chance to do it again this year but had to turn it down for family reasons.
