To the victors go the star spots.

A total of nine players combined from the Division I and II 2020 NHIAA football champions, Nashua High School North and Souhegan, have been named to the West roster for this year’s annual CHaD East-West High School All Star football game, slated for Saturday, July 17 at 1 p.m. at Saint Anselm College’s Grappone Stadium in Manchester.

Four Titans will be on the squad, which is being coached by Souhegan’s Robin Bowkett: Linemen Max Ackerman, Spencer Whiting, Zach Maszczak, and Liam Novak. Whiting and Maszczak can play linebacker on defense.

Souhegan has five players, but Will Boyle is the only lineman. Quarterback Austin Jain, running backs Riley Lawhorn and Mike Maroun, plus receiver Luke Manning were selected.

Nashua South running back/defensive end Jason Compoh, who is bound for Merrimack College in the fall, was also selected, along with Bishop Guertin receiver Brendan Callahan to round out the Nashua schools’ contingent.

Hollis Brookline has four players, including spectacular running back Marc -Andre Thermitus. Joining him from the Cavs are linemen Quinn Connors and Adam Slater, plus wide receiver Blake Bergerson.

Merrimack has three players on the roster – RB-DB Jake Trahan, TE-LB Cody Keefe, and two-way lineman Dylan Sadowski. Milford running back-corner Darrion Kimball is also on the roster.

For the East, the only local on the team is Alvirne’s Kyle Gora.

There are some familiar names on the East coaching staff, which is headed up by Spaulding’s Kevin Hebert – Jimmy and Andy Vailas, the latter a former Bishop Guertin and UNH standout.

Bowkett, of course, was slated to coach the West team last year before the game was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Assisting him this year are several current and former head coaches and highly regarded assistants: JT Anderson

, Jared Chandler, Justin Hufft, Keith Jones, Brandon O’Connell, Andrew Provencher, Joe Battista, Nick Hammond, Kip Jackson, Branden Lilley, Pat O’Neil and Rick Urda.

On a sad note, one of the players selected to the East squad was former Londonderry standout/captain Jacob Naar, who was tragically killed last weekend in an automobile accident.

Naar’s family, CHaD officials said,

has chosen to fulfill his wishes of fundraising for the game. The East will not replace Naar on the roster and officials said they will organize some way to honor Naar’s memory at the game.

The game, of course, is played to benefit the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth. Players are not required to fundraise in order to play in the game but according to CHaD officials, they have generated over $535,000 since the game began. Last year’s teams raised $46,000 despite the pandemic, highlighted by former Milford High School standout Colton Burrows.

Players usually gather at the Dartmouth-Hitchock Medical Center for orientation but that will be virtual this year due to the pandemic. The orientation usually includes info about the work of CHaD and fundraising. Players will also meet with the coaches in a virtual setting for on-field information.

Fans can donate to the players on their individual fundraising pages at www.CHaDAllStarFootball.org.
