It will be an all-local Division I girls basketball quarterfinal matchup on Sunday as Nashua North came back from Keene 45-31 winners in the prelims Friday night. That earns them a date with Bishop Guertin Sunday

But the Titans weren’t the only local girls team to enjoy a win. The Hollis Brookline girls basketball team will face Pelham on Sunday in the Division II quarterfinals, courtesy of its 62-39 semifinal win over Milford.

The area has its first semifinalist as the Bishop Guertin girls hockey team pummeled Keene-Monadnock-Fall Mountain 9-0. Guertin advances to a semifinal Tuesday night at Everett Arena against Hanover.

Here is the rundown of Friday’s tournament action and what’s ahead today:

GIRLS BASKETBALL

DIVISION I PRELIMS

(REGION FOUR SEMIFINAL)

NASHUA NORTH 45,

KEENE 31

The Titans gave up three early 3-pointers and then defensively shut the Backbirds down as Olivia Mazerolle and Grace Cardin each had 13 points while Kaitlyn Laurendi added seven.

North led 27-18 at the half before the ‘Birds closed to within three in the third quarter. But after a time out, the Titans (4-8) went on a 7-0 run and took control thereafter.

All of the ‘Birds 12 first quarter points came on treys, but they didn’t have another one the rest of the game.

“We took control with solid defense the rest of the way,” North coach Curt Dutilley said. “Great ball movement on offense as (Keene) packed in a tight zone, and we showed patience and found all the right shots.

“I loved how they handled the fourth quarter, making eight or 10 passes waiting for the opening to show itself.”

North had five different scorers in the fourth quarter. Keene was led by Elyza Mitchell’s 14 points.

DIVISION II PRELIMS

(REGION TWO SEMIS)

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 62,

MILFORD 39

Elisabeth Stapelfeld led the Cavs with 13 points while Bella Ferrazzani had 11. Cheyenne Colbert (eight) and Maggie Crooks (seven) also helped out.

Milford’s Bailey Johnson led all scorers with 16 points while Sarah Dobbs added 12 to the Spartans cause.

Stapelfeld and Caroline Clark each had eight boards for HB.

GIRLS HOCKEY

DIVISION I QUARTERS

(REGION TWO FINAL)

BISHOP GUERTIN 9,

KEENE-MONADNOCK-FALL MTN 0

The Cards (15-0) got a goal by Kate Simpson a minute in, led 3-0 after one period and never looked back, and now it’s on to the semis Tuesday.

Julie McLaughline had four goals, while Simpson and Jasmine Shattuck each had two. Lindsay Hult had a goal while enny Lynch had three assits. Makenna Reekie and Sarah King shared the shutout in goal.

TODAY’S GAMES

In Division I boys basketball, the only two area teams left, Alvirne (8-3) and Bishop Guertin (15-5), will tangle in Hudson at 5 p.m. They did not meet in the regular season, but it’s an interesting coaching matchup. Cards coach John Fisher is a former Broncos head coach while Alvirne coach Marty Edwards is a former BG assistant.

It’s another big boys hockey day with three games on tap, as Bishop Guertin will host Nashua North-Souhegan, both teams coming off Division I prelim round wins, in the Division I quarterfinals/regional final. The puck drops at 4 p.m. at Hudson’s Cylones Arena. It will be the first game back for Saber-Titans coach Bill Kotsifas, who had to serve a four-game suspension for arguing with an official a couple of weeks ago.

Meanwhile, In Division II, Merrimack will visit Manchester Memorial tonight at 8 at Manchester’s JFK Coliseum. The Crusaders, unbeaten, edged Merrimack 6-5 in a regular season game.

And Hollis Brookline -Derryfield will visit Pembroke-Campbell at Concord’s Everett Arena at 9:15 p.m.
