BG boys hoop holds off Bedford; HBDS hockey in 1-1 tie

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Feb 1, 2021

There was no football on Sunday to watch, but there were two big local high school basketball games.

Besides North-South, the Bishop Guertin High School boys basketball team was in action yesterday, topping Bedford 49-45 at Bedford to move to 5-2 on the season.

The Cards, who led by 10 points twice, ended up hitting five straight free throws down the stretch to preserve the win.

Guertin led 17-10 after one, 29-25 at the half and 38-33 heading into the final period.

Nate Kane led the way with 15 points while Dylan Santosuosso added 14. Joe Delacey led Bedford with 11.

The Cards are slated to host Windham on Tuesday.

The lone goal for the Warriors in what was a defensive struggle was scored by Senior forward Colin McDonald, unassisted, in the second period.

The Indians struck back midway through the third period on a power play goal to send the game to overtime.

Both teams had good chances in OT but came up empty.

The Warriors (1-0-1) go on the road Wednesday to face Pembroke-Campbell in Concord.
