Nashua South's Iruka Obinelo looks to put a shot up against the tight defense of North's Grace Cardin during last year's Battle of the Bridge game.Whether both get the chance to compete against each other again is up to the Nashua Board of Education, which is scheduled to take up the idea of a winter sports season for the second time this month tonight. NASHUA — The Board of Education will once again get back to the decision of whether to approve the Nashua Athletic Department’s proposal for winter athletics going forward with various restrictions and protocols during the pandemic.

Nashua athletic director Lisa Gingras presented her proposal three weeks ago on Nov. 9. It included the possibility of having all winter sports with restrictions and protocols. For example, the Division I athletic directors propose that ice hockey and wrestling would be played only once a week.

The plan is to start practices no earlier than Dec. 14, shutting things down completely during the Christmas holiday break, and not having games and other athletic competition until Jan. 15 at the earliest.

The board put off voting on the proposal until it could tackle the remote-hybrid learning issue, tabling a vote until tonight. Athletics is on the agenda under “Unfinished Business: Recommendation to approve the Winter Athletics plan, as presented by Athletic Director Lisa Gingras on November 9, 2020.”
