Panthers enjoy soccer sweep of Merrimack; Sabers,Spartans split

The Nashua High School South boys soccer team goes into the final week of this abbreviated regular season on a roll. Saturday the Panthers collected their fourth straight win, 2-0 over Merrimack, to move to 6-1 while handing the 3-1-1 Tomahawks their first loss.

Manny Orozco and Matt Keisling scored the goals, while Josue Martinez, Ryan Hadouche and Leo Kopicko played well on defense.

South faces Bishop Guertin on Tuesday and Merrimack hosts Alvirne on Monday.

It was a busy day for local teams, and here’s how the other games went:

GIRLS SOCCER

NASHUA SOUTH 4,

MERRIMACK 3

The Panthers scored four goals in the final 20 minutes of the game to get their first win of the season (1-5-1). Soraya Ross had a hat trick, which included the game winner.

Alex Kapopolous also tallied a goal for the Panthers with an assist from Mia Cruz

Merrimack’s Alexis Best, Siobhan McMakin and Emma Valluzzi each found the back of the net.

South visits Bishop Guertin on Tuesday and Merrimack (0-5) visits Alvirne on Monday.

MILFORD 5,

SOUHEGAN 0

Marissa Sage had a hat trick while Brooke Gizzonio added two goals as the Spartans (5-0) stayed unbeaten.

Mikayla Thompson played well at midfield while Rachael Gozzonio did well up top. Defensively, Renee Wilson, Maddi Howard and Sarah Sawyer aided to the shutout recorded by netminder Caroline Tessier.

Despite the loss, it was a special senior night for Saber seniors Madi Lamar, Taryn Quinlan, Anna Goyette, Nathalie Patnaude, and Hunter Stonebraker as Souhegan tried to put some pressure on the Spartans.

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 4,

HINSDALE 1

Elizabeth Jacob notches a hat trick to lead the Warriors (4-4) as they outshot Hinsdale 28-8.

Adri Bausha added one goal in the winning effort. Tiffany Cuddihy, Rama Koudsi and Bri Fish each had time in net. WLC visits Monadnock on Wednesday.

BOYS SOCCER

SOUHEGAN 2,

MILFORD 1

Simon Trombley scored six minutes in and Alex Lin made it 2-0 two minutes into the second half as the Sabers picked up their first win of the season (1-3-1).

Assists went to Tyler Moran and Jack Forristall.

Milford (2-2-1) avoided the shutout with a goal by Ryan Constable, assisted by Colin Gregy, in the 78th minute.

Jake Morrisette had 11 saves in the Souhegan goal. For the Spartans, Reilly Hansen had six saves.

FIELD HOCKEY

SOUHEGAN 10,

MILFORD 0

The Sabers ended the abbreviated regular season unbeaten (9-0) as Cali Bishop and Cari Mastergeorge each had two goals.

Single tallies went to Nicole O’Rourke, Margot Manz, Catie Summers, Juliette Rafuse, Miya Chorney, and Annika Madeja.

Assists went to Rafuse, O’Rouke and Ella Barrett.

Milford didn’t muster a shot on goal but Milford goalie Aliah Gagnon had 16 saves, and got some defensive help from Milford defense Emma Kreatz, Shelby Miles, and Hallie Gagnon.

Milford hosts Derryfield Monday in a Division II play-in game while Souhegan is at Hollis Brookline in the prelims on Wednesday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3,

LONDONDERRY 0

The Cavs (6-1) sweep the Lancers 25-15, 25-15, 25-20. Hanna Close (seven kills, six aces), Sarah Dreyer (seven kills), Meaghan Coutu (five kills), Angelina Leonard (19 assists) and Jess Cooper (five digs) made great contributions in the win. Hollis Brookline hosts Merrimack next Saturday.

MILFORD 3,

PELHAM 1

The Spartans (4-1) defeated the Pythons by the scores of 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 25-16.

Peyton Schwab (12 kills, five digs), Ali Fortin (nine kills, three digs) and Lilly Worrall (eight digs, seven aces) played phenomenal for the locals. Milford hosts Souhegan on Friday.
