Football: Sabers roll, Cougars rally; South volleyball wins

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Oct 17, 2020

The Souhegan High School football team keeps going strong as they rolled over host Manchester West on Friday night, 55-6, to improve to 4-0 on this abbreviated season.

Senior quarterback Austin Jain tossed four touchdown passes, two to Luke Manning.

The way things have gone for the Sabers this fall, that’s nothing new. But junior Tony Garrant scored his first rushing TD and freshman J.J. Bright scored his first varsity rushing touchdown as well.

Souhegan heads to Plaistow next Friday to face Timberlane, the first regular season meeting ever between the two programs.

In other games, it was thumbs up for Campbell and a tough night for Milford:

CAMPBELL 20,

SANBORN 18

The Cougars evened their record at 2-2 in dramatic fashion, as quarterback Jackson Kanaley found Will McPherson for a 35-yard touchdown with just 2:33 left.

It was the second of two Kanaley TD passes, as he earlier connected with Hunter Caron on a 45-yard touchdown. Also for Campbell, Nathan Perry had a rushing TD.

The Cougars will host Trinity next weekend.

PELHAM 34,

MILFORD 13

The good news for the Spartans is they became the first team to score on Pelham all season.

The bad news came in the final score, dropping Division II Milford to 1-2 while the Pythons, a Division III team this year, improved to 4-0.

Darrion Kimball had both Spartan scores on long TD runs. Milford trailed only 14-7 at the half, but gave up a Jake Herrling kickoff return for a TD to help make it 22-7.

The Spartans also fumbled on the goal line and had a field goal attempt blocked.

Milford hopes to even its record next weekend in a rematch with Hollis Brookline.
